I have been working at Hollywood Casino part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very friendly, upbeat and exciting environment to work in.

    Cons

Model Beverage Server management is very inconsistent with guidelines, expectations and rules. Almost every conflict that arises in my department seems to stem from the amount of inconsistency among managers.

    Advice to Management

Be more consistent! All of the managers need to be on the same page with every rule and procedure to prevent issues between employees and management, as well as employee-to-employee.

    Pros

Great dealers to work with. Players are nice, too.

    Cons

Detached, number-crunching management team. Rarely see them interacting with the players and employees except when there is a VIP function.

I worked at Hollywood Casino full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Beautiful casino. A variety of positions and incredible coworkers.

    Cons

No accountability from management and no job security.

Every response from management regarding its shortcomings is that it's a new casino. It's an excuse that gets old. They protect bad managers with similar excuses, they are new at managing, the same standard of patience and understanding is not applied to it's workers.

Rules are created "as they go" and expected tobe enforced and enacted to the fullest extent without taking into account documentation, training, or inconvience on behalf of the workers.

No sincere attempts to mediate between workers and managment, to take suggestions to management under consideration, or to adjust counter intutive practices that hinder workers are made.

Not to mention, while decent, still the lowest pay and business in town.

Expect very slow days and harrassment from bored managers. Expect to pretend to be busy 5 days out the week and to be withheld from opportunities to be productive. Management can write and document what ever about the workers without providing the proof and there is no real process of repeal.

    Advice to Management

Stop making your workers pay for mismanagement.

Hold supervisors to the same standard as you hold your floor people. There is no excuse for directors to tolerate multiple instances of disparaging text messages from supervisors to workers and known attempts by managers to trick team members into quitting and losing their jobs.

Also, stop making and enforcing rules that alienate individual workers or departments. If something becomes a problem, do your part as leaders to resolve issues rather than simply outlaw a basic function and leave the workers to adjust to your mistakes.

    Pros

    Consistent schedule
Two 30 minute breaks in a 8 hour shift
    Good coworkers
    Health benefits for F/T employees
Opportunity to earn bonus bucks for attendance or performance

    Cons

    Micromanagement
    Easy to get terminated
Stress to make sure there are no mistakes, i.e. signing for chips, preventing minors from getting in to the casino.

    Advice to Management

Recognize that the most valuable asset that you have is your staff. Your success or failure depends on them.

    Pros

Easy job, small house, lots of regulars, decent toke rate, non smoking casino, ok benefits, clean facilities, laid back atmosphere

Kind of cliquey, lots of regulars, toke rate variance from day to day, working every weekend if full time, odd policy changes, terrible union.

I worked at Hollywood Casino full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The only reason to work here.is to get training in casino games if you want to be a dealer and then take your expertise elsewhere.

    Cons

Inconsistent and erratic application of rules and procedures. No appreciation of experience or of long term Penn National employees. Lack of standards. Will not back you up with difficult patrons. Very poor communication.

    Advice to Management

Quit reducing everyone to numbers. There is no one size fits all player or employee. In the effort to increase customer service satisfaction you have used people who are not trained sufficiently to provide objective scores on your shopping reports. It only results in an apathy and low morale in your front line work force.

I worked at Hollywood Casino (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The pay is good, but that's it.

    Cons

Management is always kind of "winging it". They play favorites. If you're not buddy buddy with Management their is ZERO chance for advancement. Constant budget cuts that effect morale. Every supervisor/manager wants you to do things differently, so you have to constantly adapt day by day depending on which supervisor is standing over your shoulder. Supervisor will throw you under the bus in a heartbeat if it is going to benefit them or get them out of trouble.

    Advice to Management

Get every supervisor on the same page when it comes to policy. Don't play favorites.
