    Pros

Get to talk about movies, video games. Not difficult, brainless work.

I worked at Hollywood Video full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I got out of there. On a serious note I got to work with some amazing people. There were (at the time) a lot of stores so when I moved to Boston, I could find a store.

    Cons

They closed, so I helped with the fire sale to get rid of everything, then the next store I was in closed. Each time another store closed I got a lateral promotion (promotion because I would get more hours, lateral because my pay and responsibilities would stay the same).

    Advice to Management

Trust that your employees want to make the store a better place. Treat employees well and give them the room to make the store better. and good job on getting rid of the purple shirts.

I worked at Hollywood Video full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You got to rent free movies. But that's about it.

    Cons

Poor culture - they want Hollywood to be your whole life. Low pay, unorganized management, no promotions from within.

  9. "Easy work and very little pressure, but boring and unfufilling."

    Pros

free movie rentals, easy place to work, friendly co workers, discounts on merchandise, good corporate structure, safe workplace, easy scheduling,

    Cons

boring, unfufilling, occasionally annoying customers, bad holiday overtime, incompetent management, flourescent lights, on your feet all day, late hours on weekends

    Advice to Management

My manager was put to work before he finished management training and it made it impossible to work because he had no idea how to solve even the smallest of problems. Have your store managers finish their training before putting them to work.

    Pros

Free rentals were nice, still having a job would be nicer.

    Cons

The upper managment failed to share information with store managment and instead of doing their own jobs were out on interviews while telling everyone that "it's all under control"

    Advice to Management

    Please, talk to your employees

  11. "Seemed like it was great before acquisition by Movie Gallery"

    Pros

Analyzing and optimizing movie rental retail provides for interesting work. There were some key mid-level managers that were excellent leaders.

    Cons

Acquisition by smaller Movie Gallery meant meant Movie Gallery management didn't know how to drive the ship. A lot of office politics.

    Advice to Management

Finally Hollywood Video went into Chapter 7. When revenues start declining, you can't keep doing things the same way. When new methods are proven, you need to adjust.
