Pros
Whilst starting a new role can be incredibly daunting, beginning my role at Hologic has been a wonderful experience. I have felt nothing but support since day one. I have been made to feel welcomed and valued as a member of the team. The working hours are flexible and employee engagement is a central focus - as an employer Hologic understand that life does not begin and end once you walk into the office. Work life balance is important to the company and you are made to feel at ease and comfortable with every decision that is made.
Cons
Lots of internal training modules are completed within the first 30 days - this can sometimes feel like it is never-ending as there are so many.

Stable, comfortable engineering company
Feb 7, 2017 - Systems Test Engineer in Newark, DERecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
• Retains good engineers (most software engineers are 6+ years at Hologic) • Good Work/Life balance (rarely over 45 hours per week for exempt employees) • Competitive benefits (including retirement vesting & continuing education compensation) • Good middle-management helps keep engineers productive • Focus on people and purpose, which comes naturally • Healthy internship program
Cons
• Understaffed engineering group means the group is susceptible to disturbances (even vacations can cause unexpected issues in workflow) • Despite understaffed group, salaries are moderate • Neglected requirements documents cause major problems for an FDA-regulated group • Bad software culture leans away from Agile and Unit Testing, leading to too much dependence on the competence of individual software engineers • Not enough communication with the end-clients during development leads to decisions in a vacuum • Small size leads to lack of horizontal movement opportunities ("locked in" to a role) • Very informal on-boarding process for new engineers (likely due to the fact that the group rarely hires new engineers, outside of interns), despite the fact that strong domain knowledge is required to function well

Thanks for your review. I do not agree, we do regular compensation reviews throughout the year at both the position and regional levels. Combined with the generous benefits packages we offer, we are confident we are providing competitive pay for all sites and positions.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your positive review. I'm pleased to see you have a great work/life balance, it's a hugely important factor in building a culture that is both high performing and a community of talent. The ability to do that lies with being able to manage all aspects of your home and work life well. We are continually assessing how we reward performance at Hologic, as well as how our compensation compares with the market. We primarily reward performance through bonuses and don't guarantee annual increases, most of our employees do see an increase in their compensation each year. Thank you for your dedication to Hologic and the work that you do.
