    Pros

-They have new graduate programs geared to new or inexperienced RNs in multiple specialty areas as opposed to just med-surgical
    -Supportive environment
    -Good management
    -Good/competitive pay for new grads

    Cons

New grad program needs to be more organized; preceptors are generally great but need to be told exactly what is expected of them/the new grad during the orientation period

    Neutral Outlook

I worked at Holy Cross Health full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

In some areas staff is very nice and like a family, in other areas staff can be very rude. Culture changes unit to unit. Competitive-ish pay, especially compared to inner city hospitals. Also have generous student loan repayment assistance. It is a good place to get some experience, but go somewhere that treats staff better after that.

    Cons

Staffing is ALWAYS too low, no matter where you are. Everything is about the budget. Suggestions or requests are never followed through on by upper management. Bad scheduling (forced to rotate days/nights, strict every other weekend). Clinical ladder is too much of a hassle. Off site parking.

    Advice to Management

Stop micromanaging your staff that know how to do their job, focus on the bigger picture about what is best for our patients and community. Do not force staff to rotate days/nights with no future hope for being permanent day shift, and every other weekend is too much to ask. Staff your unit accordingly, and you will retain your existing staff.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Holy Cross Health full-time

    Pros

Respiratory duties are completely computerized, down to the ventilators. Supplies and equipment are fully stocked. 12 hr shifts make a great work/life balance.

    Cons

Lazy coworkers often sleeping in the department. Computerized vent checks make it easier for RTs to not be on the unit. Serious problems with management not holding senior RTs to standards. Hostile environment if you are not from Africa or India and. Those that care will be forced out or overworked to cover for the lazy therapists.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to the complaints from Nursing that Respiratory is not on the units....especially at night. The respiratory department in located in the basement and serves as a hiding spot for a majority of the staff.
