I worked at Home Depot Canada (More than a year)

    Pros

Home Depot is a great place to provide great customer service. Being part of the front end and able to work in other departments give me an opportunity to be able to help. I love being able to do that.

    Cons

It was really hard to get a full-time job there. Working 2 jobs 65 hours a week. I just really wanted one full-time job.

    Advice to Management

I think people would stay there and be more dedicated if it was a full-time job. I just hope someday they can make the majority of their staff full time.

    Pros

great benefits, set schedules, not all home depot warehouses some have 3 shifts. holiday pay. call-off system is good.

    Cons

Health insurance benefits are only available for full-time employees and minimum wage start for employees regardless of knowledge product and experience.

    Advice to Management

Management should seriously put into consideration a starting employee's value when coming in with great experience, knowledge and understanding of products including past sales attributes and accomplishments.

    Pros

    Customer service and selling techniques

    Cons

Hours suck if you stay part time

    Advice to Management

Follow through with your promises and don't treat employees like they're all misinformed. Some of them may have had more experience than you bit in a different line of management

    Pros

This was a part time time job for me so I didn't take it too seriously. The work schedule was pertty fair and if I needed a day off it was usually accomodated. My Manager was pretty easy going and I felt comfortable talking to him about issues I was facing (other employees, work schedule, tasks, etc).

Having the opportunity to work in different departments and learn new skills and develop knowledge about all the different products was most interesting to me.

Formal and informal staff events were fun even with such a diverse group of people working at the Home Depot.

    Cons

Starting a work shift early in the morning was the one thing I liked the least.

    Advice to Management

I didn't have much exposure to Senior Management so I can't really comment on this. My direct Manager treated me well.

    Pros

The occasional friendly person whom you're able to make their day by helping them.

    Cons

Customers are more often than not rude. Steel-toed shoes while behind the front desk make little sense. Very particular dress code, although SR Mgt does not follow. PT pay does not go up with min. wages.

    Advice to Management

    Favoritism will get you nowhere.
