I worked at Home Goods part-time

    Pros

If you're looking for a summer job where you are active throughout the shift, this is the place to be. Also, my coworkers and management staff were easy to get along with.

    Cons

Hours given to new hires can be odd and later in the day.

I worked at Home Goods full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Customer interaction is satisfying and appreciated. Highly enjoy merchandising just wish we were given more opportunities to do it. Fun coworkers.

    Cons

Worst managers I've ever encountered. Too many are lazy, stay in office while floor is understaffed then want to chew out staff for poor customer OSATS (Overall Satisfaction Surveys) instead of jumping in shoulder to shoulder with workers.

    Advice to Management

    Earn your pay

I worked at Home Goods part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Help people choose decor for their home

    Cons

Management is rude, customers can be downright mean, pay is crap for what you have to deal with, co-workers can be unprofessional, sales floor is not tidied up throughout the day.

    Advice to Management

At least for the Roseville, CA store: Admit to incoming interviewees that there is a HIGH employee turnover rate, which is due to management not caring about their employees. One manager in particular spent the Christmas season too involved in the charity to realize customers strongly disliked being asked to donate, let alone having to listen to cashiers/managers using the paging system to announce how much money people were donating. Management should foster growth in newly-hired employees instead of chewing them out in front of customers because they misunderstood what another manager said. Also, the sales floor should be regularly cleaned during store hours, because rugs and towels on the floor is a hazard to customerss and hogs up aisles. Do not leave the mess for the night staff, who just want to go home at the end of the night.

  6. "Great employment, lots of stress"

    Pros

Rewarding, great apportunities for leadership, increase pay. The employees there are almost always wonderful and fun to work with. I spent a few years working for them and took pride in my work.

    Cons

Pay increase from standard employee is minimal ($1 more/hour), duties can get monotonous and draining, sometimes are expected to do more than is possible, management can sometimes be unorganized. The job can get very stressful (but to be fair, I ended up taking on the duties of 2 other coordinator positions as well for several months, but that shouldn't have happened).

I worked at Home Goods part-time

    Pros

Friendly Co-workers for the most part. Various shifts for custom schedules. Employee discounts.

    Cons

Constantly on feet, no matter what you are doing. Communication between management and staff is baffling to say the least. Personally, I felt like they all had "favorites" and just flat out did not care about some others so they turned up their noses.

    Advice to Management

Take a look in the mirror and realize that you are just like everyone else you work with. You make mistakes like all the employees you "manage", but most importantly, you are a human too. Please stop walking around like you are better than us and that you don't make mistakes at work as well. I am sorry if this is too harsh. I just wanted to tell the truth.

I have been working at Home Goods part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

They try to work with you and your availability. Management is friendly and want to help you succeed within the company. Home goods wants to hear from their employees to work with them to improve relations between customer, employee and management .

    Cons

Hours are not always available. Employee discount could be better. It is a retail environment so days can be very busy with stocking, customer service and cleaning.

    Advice to Management

Our managers are fun and knowledgeable

    Pros

Associates are always fun to work with.

    Cons

Not enough help ever. Expecting way too much from one person. Always hot in the summer ! Customers even complained!

    Advice to Management

Help your associates. Always be willing to do what you ask of associates.
