    Pros

    Flexible Working hours. Many Sections will consider compressed hours or working from home opportunities.
    Opportunities to take responsibility for large projects and gain valuable expereince that benefits in developing competencies for promotion.
    Many units within Immigration have annualised hours working. This gives a percentage of your salary for unsociable hours working.

    Cons

    Entirely dependant on where you are based and job function. Try to speak to someone within the team you intend to join for advice on working hours to make sure it is the right fit for you. Immigration Enforcement can be early starts and working extra hours may be necessary.

    I have been working at Home Office full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Interesting work that's always making the headlines in the press. I feel I am making a difference and that my work is valued. Good team and location. Good pay and pension. Recommended.

    Cons

    As with all civil service jobs, there are less perks than if you work in the private sector.

    Pay can vary but is usually pretty decent. There is loads of work to be done so your experience will be boosted in a short while. The organisation looks good on your CV.

    Cons

    Can be hard to get your foot in the door.

    Their is a very wide variety of work with in the organisation all of which are very challenging and stretching making it a very interesting place to work and make a difference which is very self rewording

    Pay is not very good

    Pros

    Good administrative experience, which enhances anyone's CV looking for a career in an office environment. Meet interesting people, good rate of pay.

    Cons

    Very strict disciplinary procedures in place e.g. Even if your genuinely off ill on more than one occasion during a set period. Inferior training

    Advice to Management

    Most managers are very capable but some seem to overwhelmed by what is being asked of them. Senior managers need to make sure the managers under them are coping.
