I have been working at Home Office full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

One of the times top 50 places for women to work for last 3 years

A huge range of jobs - ranging from operational roles in HM Passport Office, UK Visas, immigration enforcement and Border Force aswell as roles dealing with counter terrorism , crime and policing and HQ roles such as, strategy, policy, finance, commercial etc

It has an incredibly diverse workforce in every sense of the word

The department has two vital overarching objectives -to promote economic growth and to protect the UK - they are both objectives which make you feel proud to be contributing to.

You progress on merit and there is always opportunities to develop

    It's nothing like yes minister!

    Cons

You have to be realistic about the roles you can do - don't choose to be a Border Force Officer if you can only work 9-5 : that's not when most planes land or ships dock

In times of austerity and even at the best of times you are not going to get huge pay rises. Ever.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you do - as they listen to us all the time and do take action
