I have been working at Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent team to work with, great benefits, able to do some amazing work out in our community. Good IT resources as well.

    Cons

Always quite a bit of change and alterations to productivity, sometimes difficult to get good open communication to upper nursing management

    Advice to Management

The teams work very, very hard to promote excellent care to our patients and support to families and facilities. The teams are the boots on the ground and have a lot to offer the agency on any necessary changes or improvements.

I have been working at Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The company really believes in their mission. I have never met a more dedicated group of individuals, theres not one person i have come across that i can find anything negative to say about. The nurses and aides are excellent. The management is supportive and available. The clients and families are amazing, its a sad occupation but you get s chance to meet people who led amazing lives, hear there stories and know your helping provide peace and comfort to the families and patients.

    Cons

Not many, sometimes lately the patient load can be heavy but its usually temporary.

    Advice to Management

Hire more per diem to help the full timers

The company and management are invested in their employees, Clients and families. There is alot of heart in this company. Great benefits and lots of support

The same challenges that face the medical field, too much paperwork not enough time to do it. Not specific to HHCRI and the computers help alot

    Advice to Management

Continue to engage with staff as you do!

    Pros

The wages and benefit package was outstanding, and the management and fellow staff were very understanding and caring.

    Cons

Since Hospice cares for End-of-Life patients the subject of death and dying is always there

I worked at Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Here you are dealing with people's lives (and deaths) in a very direct way. Humbling, important, life changing work.

    Cons

It's easy to become too involved when one is dealing on such a personal level

    Advice to Management

They already offer excellent training so I have no advice

I have been working at Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Best reasons to work here: the other employees are hands down the greatest people to work with. The is the idea of freedom especially when you are out in the field as you are free to arrange your daily schedule as you would like. pay is better then most medical offices in the state but there is more work to go along with it. Always overtime available to those who would like it. Benefits are good, nothing special the regular medical and dental that you pay out of your check for. 401k etc.

    Cons

Cons are that you have no support from management when you are out in the field. To reach anyone you call into the office and most times have to wait for someone to call you back. Presents a big issue when sitting with a patient waiting on a call back. Tough to plan anything outside of work unless you are making plans for the same day as you don't know where you will be working or what time exactly you will get out of work. IE if you make plans for dinner at 5pm knowing you get out off work at 430 it should be fine, BUT you could be ending your day on the opposite side of the state. No real advancement inside the company and no support for schooling.

    Advice to Management

Give more support to your employees in the field as they are the ones who make the company run.

I worked at Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The patients and their families are amazing. You will be gifted with deeply moving care provision daily.

    Cons

The management teams from upper to middle do not understand the dramatic differences between the home care teams and the inpatient unit staff. This makes for confusing and unspecified expectations of staff and reduced patient/family satisfaction. Not to mention the RNs and Aids (the hardest working people in health care) are basically left to fend for themselves. NO SUPPORT provided.

    Advice to Management

Make it a priority to understand the specific needs of the inpatient unit. A supported staff offers loyalty, excellent patient care, support to one another and improved outcomes for patients and families. Also, PROFIT increases with reduced turnover and improved workplace morale.

I worked at Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Small unit, small staff, family feeling among staff.

    Cons

Can't put a live body on top of a dead one to make turn over quicker as management would like you to do.

    Advice to Management

IPU nurses have so much expereince there, take suggestions from staff if you want to improve turn over.
