    I worked at Home24 full-time

    Pros

    nice colleagues (referring to IT)

    Cons

Management is not structured, hard workers get extremely low salaries and are constantly micromanaged and pressured. No career opportunities, especially for women. In general, a bad experience.

I have been working at Home24 full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great people
    Engineering skills of colleagues
It's not a fast paced environment

    Cons

    Below market average salary
Codebase's level is at a critical low
A lot of politics that disallow people and projects from progressing
Promotions are based on engineering level and politics. You end up with an engineering manager that knows only how to manage code.
A lot of complaining from lots of employees with there's no result

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to the people that you trust and complain.
Make sure that your promotions are given to people that know how to manage people or get them trained.
Allow conflicts but teach your people how to work together while they disagree about something

    I worked at Home24 full-time

    Pros

It would be hard to find another company in Berlin with such great colleagues.

If you would like to grow, join home24. There are so many gaps that you will be given a chance to grow yourself. But don't expect too much: senior management micro-manages anyone in any department if they think that the topic is important.

    Cons

The leadership doesn't trust their employees. If they feel that projects are important, they will get involved and start to micro-manage it.

Quarterly OKRs are massive. They don't provide direction. Due to the sheer amount of initiatives you won't be guided on the question of what's important and what isn't.

Projects are not given the proper amount of time: better hurry, something new is waiting anyway. No one will push you to do things properly. Quantity matters, quality does not.

    Advice to Management

Stop overcommitting the organisation with unreachable goals. This might help reducing the huge employee attrition.

    I worked at Home24 full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

*the product is rather nice, the niche market they activate in can be interesting
*some of the teams are very good, even if some people are rather junior, they seem to be highly motivated by their work and really quite smart
*in some teams the work is quite autonomous, however, this is not the culture but rather the lack of capacity for supervision. And some others "enjoy" micromanagement

    Cons

*There are layers and layers of management and, even if the company is rather small (<500 white collar plus another approx 500 blue collar) the decisions are being taken only at the highest level and the voice of the company is not really heard. The power is with a few and there is a lack of transparency
*No clear strategy or direction is being communicated to the employees and facts are being hidden or miscommunicated. Even if there is a big talk around data, they actually do not use data for people related topics
*There seem to always be excuses for no further development or investment and money cuts but there is little emphasis on developing the employees. People work in really stretched assignments but little to no recognition comes after. It is often the case that they only hire people for short term assignments (interns or contract based) and this speaks for the lack of interest in development. People also churn heavily.
    *Sometimes they oversell themselves
*They do not live their values even if they print them out and hang them around (for example a culture of feedback or value team work). The feedback lands on deaf ears and you only get feedback when it is too late.

    Advice to Management

Try to live your values and treat your employees as well as you claim that you treat your customers. They are also your customers, not only workers. "talk the talk but try to walk the walk".

I have been working at Home24 full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

In my team, there's a lot of room to learn and develop yourself. I'm encouraged to take up new responsibilities continuously. My expertise and input is valued from the moment I joined.

The company as a whole has also been steadily developing: improving the work environment, better alignment between departments, taking criticism seriously.

    Cons

Home24 is still a growing company. This gives some opportunities to develop yourself, but also some issues that would be resolved in a mature company. For example, some office spaces are not great to work at in summer.

I have been working at Home24 full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

People are nice, talented and really know their stuff. They really want to do good stuff but dont get enough opportunities

    Cons

The management sucks real bad. They give the impression that we are all about caring and helping you grow but its actually just about making more money for the company. A lot of facilities were delayed before IPO due to budget restraints but post IPO everyone went shush!
Wouldnt hurt to spend just 0.1% of the IPO amount in improving the working conditions than making everyone suffer.
And did I mentioned that apart from Technology department, Salary is really bad ("Above average" is a lie)

    Advice to Management

Please listen to the moodchecks. Dont just highlight good points. Most of the points discussed in the townhalls are just the good ones or the best of the bad ones. Because you guys really dont want to look at your employees as your asset but more like a talent for money workers.
If thats what you guys want, then dont be sad when people leave like leaves falling during Autumn.
