    Pros

    People - from all our offices around the world - are great. You learn a lot from them and you have a lot of fun with them.
    Company culture: a lot o efforts are made to spread the joy, the target of excellence and the community spirit among our complex organization.

    Cons

    HomeAway is growing fast and can be a little bit heavy sometimes.
    You'd like things to go faster but you'll have to be patient.

    I have been working at HomeAway full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    HomeAway is a fast pace, high growth e-commerce company. It still has the size of a large start-up while benefiting from the financial health & strength of a more mature company. At an individual level this means that there are many opportunities for one to grow and have an impact.

    Genuinely love the way our leadership team makes itself truly approachable, to either explain the way forward or listen to new ideas. A good illustration is our "table talks" every friday, where all our leadership team is present for teams to engage.

    Last but not least, the team and company culture: open, work-hard play -hard, supportive.. Pretty much what you would expect from any other large internet company, but certainly worth calling out.

    I would strongly encourage to join if interested in fast growth environments.

    Cons

    Must be ready to work under strong pressure and with a certain level of ambiguity. Again to be expected in such environment.

    I have been working at HomeAway full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    The work environment is amazing, very relaxed, easy going, open minded people, very international teams, flexible timetables... Allows you to have a very good private and work life balance. I totally recomment it!
    The business is growing a lto, so there is alot of career opportunities, new projects coming, global collaboration, trips, ...It is the perfect mixture of not being a start-up anymore, but neither a big complex multinational of thousands of employees. It is a matrix organization where your influence still can be taken in account for big decisions, whoever you are.

    Cons

    Fast-paced environment, you need to be open to quick flexibility to do things. It could be challenign for some people who need to have s plan defined 100% before starting something, because at HomeAway there are changes (good ones, though) a lot of times in the middle of a process or project. You need to be open minded and social to be happy at HomeAway, because the environment is very friendly and we feel like a big family.

    Advice to Management

    Continue the great communication and transparency you have with all the employees worldwide, table talks are great, the buzz, and all the ways employees have to communicate with the C-team, this is a big power you give to each of your employees that is really appreciated, to know that our opinion matters to you. Congratulations for your example and attitudo towards making this company culture so great!!

    Pros

    - Growing very fast: you can't get bored easily, there is a lot to do, if you chose to
    - International team: WW HQ in Austin, EMEA HQ in Switzerland, offices in Paris, London, Frankfurt, Singapore, Sydney...
    - Great product to work for: working for a vacation product is actually fun and inspiring (if you care, of course...)
    - The mindset is right: very few "smart but too much ego" managers; while the company sometimes tend to re-invent the wheel, the mindset still is about listening everyone's view and trying new options and ideas
    - C-Team cares about the company: the leaders of the company obviously care about the destiny of the company, and keep in very good contact with all offices
    - Casual culture: it's in the DNA since day 1, and has remained so since then.
    - Nice offices: never dull, nor anonymous
    - Frequent parties in every offices! :)

    Cons

    - Growing very fast: 20 acquisitions or so in 6-7 years does create some layers of complexity to deal with, at all levels...
    - Work your way through: there are tons of opportunities to grow, but you really have to grow without relying on processes or established career path
    - US centricity: not enough non-US people in the Top Management; does create a bias in the way product is designed

    Advice to Management

    - Work out the brand(s) awareness!
    - Too many men in the C-Team and senior positions. The male/female balance is deteriorating and it's a loss.
    - Internal processes (HR, C&B): try to be "ahead" rather than "at" market level

    Pros

    J'ai eu mes 2 enfants en tant que salarié chez HomeAway et c'est une entreprise qui valorise les salariés épanouis et avec une vie de famille. Venant du conseil, la culture est ici radicalement différente avec les mêmes exigences de performance, de qualité et de passion mais le tout en veillant à l'équilibre personnel.

    Cons

    L'entreprise grossit et a fait beaucoup d'acquisition, beaucoup de changements sont en marche, l'organisation n'est pas toujours optimale et les processus manquent cruellement mais l'engagement des salariés fait que ça passe et ça roule plutôt bien!

    Advice to Management

    Investir dans les processus et l'organisation pour décloisonner les départements et aligner avec les changements de stratégies.

    Pros

    HomeAway est en pleine expansion - acquisitions, cybercommerce, migrations, etc., ce qui offre la chance de participer à de nombreux projets critiques et lancements avec un impact mondial sur les entreprises et les opérations. Ceci est unique et apporte certainement une dimension et des défis supplémentaires à mon expérience personnelle. Aussi, j'apprécie la communication et la transparence de la haute direction sur tous les futurs changements, succès, etc.

    Cons

    Cet environnement difficile et en croissance rapide pourrait cependant avoir quelques contraintes. En effet, il est parfois compliqué de prendre du recul, de s'améliorer, d'obtenir une formation et de réfléchir à notre développement personnel.

    Advice to Management

    Continuer à motiver l'équipe ...
