I have been working at HomeStreet full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

For a Loan Officer, the compensation is above average, benefits including 401k are also above average, and the product mix is one of the most diverse in the industry. The reputation in the community is also very positive. I admire the company's selectivity in hiring and feel that I am surrounded by the best of the best in our industry.

    Cons

The technology is terrible, most notably our origination software which is antiquated. Also, there needs to be more support or tools to help elevate solid producing Loan Officers to the next level.

The biggest hindrance to a Loan Officer at Homestreet achieving the next level of production is how they handle the Loan Officer Assistants. They put monthly quotas on the Loan Officer to determine whether the company will cover that assistant's salary that month or whether the Loan Officer has to pay that assistant out of his or her own pocket. That is appalling to me.
Everybody has a down month now and then, and many times it is due to events beyond your control.

Thus, when a Loan Officer has a down month, the Loan Officer, in turn, earns a lower commission for that month. That is never a good thing when one is straight commission. But then, Homestreet wants to kick you while you're down by taking money out of your already lower commission check to pay your contribution for the assistant. A terrible business model regarding how Loan Officer Assistants are handled. That needs to change.

    Advice to Management

Remember that the performance of your employees, most notably the Loan Officers, are the reason as to why Homestreet was able to position itself to become public in the first place. Reward and recognize your employees and provide more tools to help your above average employees feel appreciated and also feel as if they are given support and tools to accelerate their career.

I have been working at HomeStreet part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good compensation, solid benefits, the people are great, management understands things, customers like the smaller, community status, branches trust their employees

    Cons

Nothing too terrible, branches are slower than other jobs, could be a bad thing that everyone starts to recognize names and such, potential problems with employees as it's a smaller company

    Advice to Management

Keep up the positive outlook and keep the trust in the employees. Maybe make it known to employees that, if they want, career opportunities opening up that they could potentially fill.

I have been working at HomeStreet part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

-Very little stress or pressure on sales
-Community Bank, you'll get to know your customers and community really well. They encourage employees to do community service
-Full benefits for part time employees

    Cons

-Very old fashion, conservative on deposit holds and loan approval. Management thinks that branches should "build personal relationship with customers" and have them basically doing operation's job besides what normally happen in a branch
    -Very unorganized emails

    Advice to Management

Please stop referring customers to call the branch, instead, train the call center and operation to do their actual job. Call center should really be 24 hours since the bank is expanding.

Experienced Management who cares about their employees. Supportive, knowledgeable staff always willing to help each other out. Great pay if you produce. Hard work does not go unnoticed.

Technology challenged(not uncommon for a growing co.). Benefits are okay, could be better. Had to change dentists for the first time in 13 years due to insurance limitations.

    Advice to Management

    Great job in So Cal!

I worked at HomeStreet full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The company is expanding rapidly so there are great growth opportunities in all organizational functions and positions.

    Cons

Turnover is really high and pay is generally low! The company seems to care more about profit than people so there are a ton of mistakes and disparate systems that make life really frustrating. I was promised a customer/people-centric environment and career growth that never came to fruition, which is why I left.

    Advice to Management

Put more energy into employee on-boarding, training, nurturing and compensation. While I was there you went from being an amazing local bank that REALLY cared about employees and customers to expecting us to be robots and nickle-and-diming customers.

    Pros

Absolutely nothing, horrible management and bias to certain individuals. Unnecessary criticism without any proof. There are no written policies, it's being made up as they go.

    Cons

They tolerate employee using recreational drugs.
It should be ok to do what you want to do on your own time, especially when you are out on break or lunch!

    Advice to Management

Should do random drug test, you will be surprise.

I have been working at HomeStreet full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There was a previous slogan of "Great neighbors, great bankers" and now "There's no place like". There is truth in all of the company slogans and that goes to say the people who work here are amazing to work with. Decent benefits, promoting from within, beautiful corporate office building, plenty of community outreach projects, and constantly changing environment creates an exciting atmosphere.

    Cons

Merit increases are barely noticeable and that's if you get one as it's not uncommon here. Every company has it share but this one has way too much politics and favortism. Dynamics here feel very much like a startup and can have you wearing multiple hats. Leadership decisions from some departments will leave you perplexed when it comes to process and decision making. Understaffed departments are key reasons for overworked and under paid staff.

    Advice to Management

Embrace change, increase staffing, create competitive wages, regular annual performance evals, and merit increases. More team building exercises or events.

The company often hires from outside rather than internal promotion.

    Advice to Management

    Promote within the bank.
