I worked at HomeStreet full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

They hire very nice people for the most part, and are willing to train capable people who aren't especially experienced, so it's a good place to start out a career.

    Cons

Leadership changes often and upper management is aloof and often rude. Many employees are not at all tech savvy which makes supporting them difficult. Compensation for many roles is on the lower end. Human resources seemed ineffective when they received complaints (for example, multiple employees complained of sexual harassment from a female manager and those employees left within months, whereas the manager stuck around...

I worked at HomeStreet full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Wonderful, competent management and co-workers. great support staff, good compensation plan with above average benefits, and competitive pricing and product mix. It was the best company I’d ever worked for in my mortgage career. That is, until February 14, 2019.

    Cons

Company grew too fast from 2012 to present. Opened too many bank and mortgage branches in other parts of the region that ended up being huge money losers, too many layers of management, and all of this led to the company’s decision on February 14 of this year to sell off 90% of the mortgage division. This announcement was made via a company email on Valentine’s Day, of which I found both the timing and manner of presentation...

    Advice to Management

Communicate more clearly and with more transparency than what has been shown. Better yet, it would be wisest to replace this CEO.

I have been working at HomeStreet full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Flexibility to participate in the community

    Cons

this was a better company in years past, but the regular quarterly publicly traded scrutiny has eroded much of what made this company great. Turnover is constant and a disruption to our daily business success. They struggle to pay competitively in the major west coast markets; thus, causing more turnover.

    Advice to Management

Bankers are skilled workers and deserved to be paid as such, the turnover is killing the customer experience.

I have been working at HomeStreet full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Friendly, knowledgeable co-workers. Many stay here for 10+ years. Competitive pay. Opportunity for advancement and promotion.

    Cons

Changing strategic vision and downsizing certain parts of the company has led to many recent layoffs. Potential issues with the Board.

I worked at HomeStreet full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

I had a great manager, who was very understanding about how bad the PTO was, so they allowed for us to take half-days. Some excellent people. Working Remote. Great production focus.

    Cons

Major lay-offs cut off too much. Too many critical people go let go. Standard 15 days of PTO is just O.K. Some people who have been there 20+ given only a head nod for their service. Lack of effort to retain top talent. Culture and values are all talk - put your money where your mouth is.

    Advice to Management

Good luck. Lay-offs aside. Work harder to retain top talent.
