I worked at Homebase Limited full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Fantastic teams within stores. The direction the company is going is exciting. Starting to widen the ranges in the correct way. I did enjoy my time there overall.

    Cons

Not many benefits for staff these days other than 20% discount. A lot of new leadership within the company without much general knowledge on the company. Not much support through store closure process. Lots of change and instability. Certain suppliers are unreliable, adding stress to the teams.

    Advice to Management

Look after the staff more, the company used to very well and now people often feel in the dark with the business.

I have been working at Homebase Limited full-time for more than a year

    Pros

They pay you each month, that's about it. Extremely active roles available, and very rarely a dull day, 20% discount is handy too.

    Cons

Unbelievable expectations of tasks to be carried out with less than minimal staff. All the new company care about is filling stores to capacity with stock whilst forgetting you actually need space to put it and have staff to work it. Overtime is cut putting even more pressure on those in store. Stock is piled high all over the place, and it's a never ending list of demands from the higher ups in their ivory... towers. It's so bad in some stores that literally hundreds of pallets of stock are being left outside, exposed to the elements. It's just an awful place to work these days. Customers don't like the way the stores are now presented as it looks cluttered and unappealing.

    Advice to Management

Invest in more staff, reduce the stupid amounts of stock being pushed to stores and actually listen to staff on the ground level who have valid concerns about where this once well thought of company is headed.

I have been working at Homebase Limited full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Friendly environment to work in HRG used to do bare minimum, new owners have given a nicely sized pay rise to all staff.

    Cons

New owners have changed the business dramatically. Every day is now a challenge and the office is definitely lacking morale and this is cascading down to other staff. Changes probably will benefit long term, but in the meantime it's a very stressful place to work.

    Advice to Management

Go easy on us... We are trying!

I have been working at Homebase Limited full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Most of the time it is really flexible, and supportive. There is so much scope for self improvement. But you have to have the drive!! Going to work is fun and enjoyable, and working as a team towards putting the customer first means everyone is on the same page.

    Cons

A downside to the flexability is the expectation to be flexible yourself and sometimes you can end up working a very long day, and being back in early the next day. Some customers are very unpleasant, but you'll get that working anywhere.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the liberation bonus scheme, it is a great incentive to my teams. Make the intranet more user friendly, the amount of information I've needed I've had to take so much time to find. Even with the search bar! Roll out a non purchasing PUAP survey so we can find out why these customers are not purchasing and change it!!

I worked at Homebase Limited full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great team mentality, fast paced, challenging, good prospects if you are prepared to put the effort in

    Cons

Bare minimum wages, promotions mean very little pay increase for drastic increase in responsibility, not 9-5, on an 8 hr day, expect to work through lunch and stay at least an extra hour..no-one finishes on time, but don't expect to be paid for it. Systems are drastically outdated, and processes are over-long and mostly redundant.

    Advice to Management

Stop wasting money on the new "concepts" for refurbishing stores, or picking the colour of the next peak "Mat Master" t-shirt, and completely overhaul the current store systems. There are so many missed opportunities and unhappy customers and staff in every store, just because the systems are verging on useless. Man hours saved from having reasonably spec'd computers, one fully integrated ordering system with the... tills (portal does not count, that is an abomination in its own right) and better till systems, would give you so much more time and less stress to focus on proper customer service.
