I worked at Honeywell full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Honeywell makes a wide range of significant components for everything that flies. The technical challenges can be very interesting and some of Honeywell's solutions are unique and successful.

    Cons

Recent executive changes foretell major strategic changes in many of the company's product lines. The company has 25,000 engineers, scientists, and technicians, 60% of whom don't write software. It's unlikely that a company that constantly reminds it's employees that it is a software company is going to keep those smart engineers much longer. Technical expertise is no longer valued by the top three-four layers of good old boy executives. The technical career path exists on paper. No one knows what the requirements are to climb the last two-three steps.

    Advice to Management

Reducing the incentives to stay (pension changes), constantly neglecting 60% of your technical staff, and refusing to acknowledge that technical expertise takens years to develop is going to lead to serious problems. Guys who just graduated from college cannot solve problems vexing people who have done their jobs for 30-40 years.

I have been working at Honeywell full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There are still chances to move up the "corporate ladder", although becoming fewer and far between

    Cons

Too focused on non-value added procedures. Six sigma, AP1152, HOS, etc... Majority of "engineering" time spent filling out useless forms and checks in boxes before you can move a program forwards.

    Advice to Management

Local management has little to no power to make any significant changes.

I have been working at Honeywell full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    * We make some really great products.
    * Stock price is doing great
    * Repositioning products to serve IoT. Lots of software and machine interaction.
    * First year of unlimited vacation

    Cons

    * Treats employees terrible
    * Very small or no raises at all the last six years
    * Healthcare costs close to $300 every two weeks with a $3000 deductible
    * 401k match is below average.
    * Most are afraid to take any vacation.
    * Three weeks off with out pay in the last 18 months.
    * Company stopped paying any $ towards Dental.
    * No bonuses ever, for most employees.
    * Employee product discount is not very good
    * Manufacturing and supply chain is very disorganized. Both our customers and suppliers think we are disfunctional.
    * 3 Reduction in Force (layoffs) in 2016. Seemed to go after older employees.
    * Worlds worst performance review system. Bosses are forced by HR to rank people bad. And no one can get the top score.

    Advice to Management

Stop paying the CEO $36 million a year and then tell us you cant pay for dental or give us a raise or keep us employed 52 weeks per year.

I have been working at Honeywell full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

New & rewarding work on tech development projects that produce systems & software products that enhance automation, usability and safety of avionics systems deployed for commercial & business aircraft.

    Cons

Support of metrics collection on progress towards milestones and repetitive quoting of project costs steals engineering time that should be applied to quality systems development, integration & testing as well as work on patents.

    Advice to Management

Benefits are not attractive for current employees or potential new hires or for retention compared to other companies in the sector. Too many people employed who are not the immediate supervisors whose main job is collecting status & metrics to feed Executive management (non-value added work). Innovation is stifled as long as people have to spend time on continuos/daily status rather than focusing on execution, quality and innovation (new designs, patent applications, etc)
