I worked at Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Various directions and field for you to try, e.g., hardware, software and fin tech.
work-life balance and even a good place for retirement.
Pressure is little coz most of the money is coming from gorvernment.

    Cons

It would become a place for retirement if you dont have enough self motivation.
the way completing a project is sort of like finishing the homework in the school, and there is rarely pressure like that of industrial.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute full-time

    Pros

It is government-fund and very hea. Sometimes you can learn something new but sometimes you can't.

    Cons

    Very negative image.
    Bad salary
You need to have a PhD for further promotion and the technical skill you work won't apply on other vendors in Hong Kong

    Advice to Management

play less politics, play less paper work and focus on newbie training.
Dun pay low and ask some stupid questions like "Why can't I hire people?"
    really laugh people's head off.

I worked at Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Excellent location inside Science Park next to the ocean with cycling/jogging paths nearby. Colleagues are generally very intelligent. Working hours more flexible than traditional HK engineering companies

    Cons

Byzantine rules from HK government that appear to change on a monthly basis. Difficult to procure equipment, and lots of duplicate reports

    Advice to Management

Hire more people to do the reporting so that engineers can be more productive instead of writing reports for several hours every week.
