I have been working at Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Jeans day twice a week through the summers... once a week otherwise. Dress is business casual. Huge efforts in Community Engagement - get an extra paid day off to volunteer anywhere you want, and encouraged to do projects during work hours. Executive support of Diversity, with a diversity council that reports in to the CEO and frequent affinity groups (African American, LGBT / Spectrum, Asian American, Hispanic Women... you name it, there's a group for it with C suite support and sponsorship. Pay is very competitive, especially for a non profit. In Ironbound section of Newark - awesome local Spanish food.

    Cons

It's a non profit, so funding can be tight. Always under attack from politicians trying to bilk them for every dime they have, even though they pay 10 times more in taxes than they actually make every year

    Advice to Management

Stay the course... only non profit in NJ - and if Horizon isn't around, competitors would jack up health insurance prices through the roof.

I have been working at Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Work from home after 6months

    Cons

I can't speak for the commercial side of BCBS but I've worked for Horizon NJ Health for over a year and this place is an absolute nightmare. The company slogan should read "One bad business decision after another" I don't usually feel compelled to write bad reviews but I feel its necessary in this case. Consider this fair warning to perspective employees- turn and run while you can. Expectations are totally unrealistic. Nevermind the rampant mysogony. have I been in a professional setting and felt so uncomfortable or been on the receiving end of so many sexist comments from someone in a leadership role.

    Advice to Management

They need to fire management and start over

    Pros

Very good place to work and learn . Growth is possible but you have to prove yourself

    Cons

Leadership only looks out for Other leaders. Junior employees are treated very poorly and have no support from the leadership. HR is also anther problem. They are only focused on writing complaints and not helping the employees

    Advice to Management

Your junior workers are the one who help the organization run and should be considered a valuable source for the organization

I have been working at Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Non to think of other than your manager has no clue what your doing or your coming and goings. For example, has a senior member of our team actually work two jobs 4 months before he gave notice. Manager thought he was working from home on projects. One PRO is the CEO makes 9 million a year for a company that only does buisness in NJ. :)

    Cons

Jeans day twice a week through the summers and once a week otherwise is not a PRO. Managers with kingdom building personalities. Bloated technology teams with no regards towards head count. Managment regularly throws team members under the bus. Biggest pev - no coffee on the floors. Contractors who are suppose to be SME's on technology but dont know their but from their heads. Contracts regular converse with themselves in Hindu while on con-calls. No continuity due to the heavy reliance on indian based contractors. No culture due to large amount of the employee population being contractors. Groups do not perform due diligence with regards to their support technology...If it wasn't for the government, this company would be out of buisness long ago...

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the offshore contractors and start building a company culture by hiring full team USA based employees.
