I have been working at Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Horizon genuinely cares about the health and well being of it's Employees. They coordinate bi-annually an on -site mobile mammogram machine to ensure their employees keep up with their routine tests. Horizon make it easy for the working women who are unable to make appointments and take care of themselves because they are too busy with their daily routines of life and family. That speaks volumes about a Company that will go the Extra mile to ensure their Employees as well as members of course, remain healthy. Work from home program is a plus and a privilege, their benefits are fantastic, and most importantly, Management genuinely cares as well about the well being of work life balance.

    Cons

Parking in PP can be challenging. Parking should be an additional perk to working for Horizon.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work. It shows that management hears Employees concerns to enhance the company, as well as taking the initiative to "Making Healthcare work!" Great Job to Senior Management.

    Pros

Work with some really nice people.
    Training is great!

    Cons

Management is the worst! Loyalty means nothing to this company! Managers do some very unconventional things to protect themselves.

    Advice to Management

Get a pulse check from under management on how the managers are treating people and get rid of them if it's 90 - 100% negative.

    Pros

Good vacation time and holidays. You have the ability to work from home and it's near to Newark Penn Station if you don't want to drive in Newark.

    Cons

Limited opportunity for advancement, management not great and the pay is low. They seem to favor and promote the wrong people to management.

I worked at Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey full-time

    Pros

I'm a former employee of Horizon BCBSNJ's cybersecurity team. As per Glassdoor's recommendations, this review will be divided into three sections - pros, cons and advice to management.

    Pros:
    1. World class senior management. The CSO and CISO are straight-up superstars.
    2. Excellent benefits
3.Excellent support for continued learning. Generous (very, very generous) training budget. Plenty of leeway in how you use it, as long as it's somewhat relevant and you are able to articulate why you need it.
    4. Some of your coworkers will be the among the smartest people in the industry. This is also a huge opportunity to learn and grow.
    5. Work location in Newark is right across the street from Penn Station. If you're a NJ Transit commuter, it's crazy how convenient this is. You can get from your desk anywhere in the building to your platform in less than 10 minutes.
    6. If you work in the cybersecurity team, you may have the ability to work out of their satellite offices in Mt. Laurel and/or Wall Township.
    7. Reasonable amount of turnover means a reasonable amount of promotional opportunities.
    8. Free gym.
    9. Really friendly people. I've had more interesting elevator conversations at Horizon in a year than I have in the rest of my life.

    Cons

But as you may have guessed, it's never all green. Anywhere. Horizon is no exception.

    Cons:
    1. Erratic and temperamental middle management.
    2. Highly punitive culture. There are groups within Horizon that take pride in the number of people who have been terminated on their recommendation. They're hunters and you're the prey. Watch your back at all times and follow every rule, however silly it may seem (to you).
    3. Hopefully you like wearing ties because in the Security and Administration area, you will. All year. Even when it's hot... especially when it's hot.
    4. While the Newark location is super convenient for train commuters, it is the exact opposite if you plan to commute by car. Driving in and out of Newark is a nightmare. And they make matters worse by charging you to park on their own property ($7/day) once you get there.

    Advice to Management

Advice to management: Build on your greatest strength - the commitment to continued learning. Add on to that an additional step of holding employees accountable for failing to achieve their learning goals. Stop paying for the same people to take the same bootcamp every year.

I have been working at Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

New building with café and excellent gym and conference rooms.

    Cons

The building was renovated solely to make more money by leasing floors to tenants; the floors cannot be leased due to security reasons.
there are more C-level and senior level VPs, Directors than ever, yet the business continues to lose money on extremely antiquated and poor technology. Horizon "wins" awards, but they are all bogus.
Long term employees who care about the business are all very unhappy with how things have changed since previous CEO left; current CEO cares only about Ivy Leaguers and senior management.
Hostile work environment which is apparent by a quick google search for open lawsuits.
the company profits off of high premiums paid by members and nickel and diming health care professionals

    Advice to Management

    Encourage Bob to retire
Get down deep into what is really happening
    Care about long term employees
Do not allow bullying by Senior Leaders
