Meh - Could Be Better

Flexible schedule and the co-workers.
Cons
Pay, workload, lack of training or onsite support when you start. It has this kind of figure it out system which is tedious because there feels to be a 3 step process for even the simplest of things. You're made to kind of figure it out on your own. They make their inability to recruit or retain staff your issue through the workload.

Pros
Fast paced, out of the office in the community. Daily client engagement.
Cons
More case management than actual counseling.

* Salary and hourly wages. * Little opportunity for advancement unless you commit to agency for the long term. * Health insurance covers only the employee. For spouse or family coverage rates are high.

Do NOT work here, you will regret it
Sep 6, 2022 - AdministratorRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
-The work itself can be fulfilling if you like working with and helping other people...but you could also get that from plenty of other jobs without all of the incredibly negative parts of working here. -The (non-management) staff are pretty much all great, wonderful humans. -It's slightly better than having no income, I guess?
Cons
--Do you seriously believe that MULTIPLE people are logging on to write an extremely vague one-sentence review talking about how great it is to work at HH without providing any details or specifics about what makes it so great? HH knows they have serious issues and are clearly attempting to launder their reputation here. -Major, on-going staffing shortages. For several years. Let's just say, there's a reason they can't get people to work these jobs. -There are basically a half dozen people at the agency whose input is valued and acted upon. If you are not one of those people, then your perspective is essentially completely irrelevant when it comes to decision-making. -The agency has a major problem with silo-ing. Departments are VERY defensive of "their" work and are often unwilling to work together. Agency management frequently fails to step in to resolve such conflicts when one department simply refuses to assist another with work which MUST be completed. Can you imagine how frustrating it is to be in a department where the highest level directors are asking you to do certain work, but will not support you in ordering other staff they supervise to give you access to the information/systems/etc. that you need to actually do said job? -I did not receive even a cost of living raise for OVER THREE YEARS while I worked here. The wages are absolutely NOT competitive, even for this industry. Despite my workload substantially increasing once the pandemic started, I STILL did not receive a pay raise until nearly 18 months later. -For some bizarre reason, IT (called "IST" at HH, but most people aren't familiar with that acronym) is seemingly in charge of nearly all decision-making. I don't mean that they get to decide *how* things are done, they get to decide *what* actually gets done and what doesn't. At every other organization I have ever worked at, IT exists to support the other departments, yet for some reason it seems to be the other way around at HH. Multiple times, I have known program managers and directors who have asked for certain assistance only to be told no by IST, often with no explanation offered. Which brings me to probably the biggest problem with this entire organization: -HH seems to do absolutely everything it can to AVOID receiving feedback (unless it's positive, in which case, you can be sure they will hyper-focus on it). Upper management is absolutely not at all interested in listening to the perspectives and needs of staff at lower levels. Is it any wonder there have been massive staffing issues for years? There were so many times we pleaded for certain changes that would make the lives of staff easier (and therefore, increase productivity, etc.) but they were nearly always refused without discussion. --Additionally, several years ago HH commissioned some consultants to do a massive feedback project. They asked staff to give their time IN ADDITION to all of the work they already have to do to fill out surveys, complete interviews, attend focus groups, etc. And then, once the results were actually received, HH REFUSED TO RELEASE THEM or tell any of the rest of us what they were (it doesn't take much inference to realize this is because the results were awful). So this was essentially a massive waste of money which resulted in no significant changes. -During the racial justice movements of the summer of 2020, the agency sent out all this messaging to staff about how committed it was to racial justice. But again: no significant changes were made. At one point, there were vague almost-promises made to engage consultants to examine diversity, inclusivity, fairness, etc. throughout the agency. After taking nearly half a year to...um....??????....HH suddenly announced that it didn't have the funds and would not be engaging the consultant after all. -What makes all of this beyond infuriating is that about half the time, no explanation whatsoever is offered. You could spend hours putting together a proposal and gathering data and evidence for your idea and offer to do all of the work and lay out a plan for exactly how to solve the problem and after a mere ~30 seconds of consideration you will be told no. Half the time, you will not even be given a reason or explanation, even if you ask for one. There will be no acknowledgment that the problem still exists and still needs to be solved, much less any effort to find alternate solutions.
