I have been working at Hornblower Cruises and Events part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    -SOME Nice co-workers
-Beautiful views of Newport Beach and Balboa Island
-Free food if any left over
    -Free beverages
    -Good starting pay

    Cons

This place runs on cliques. If you are one of the little pets of the EVMs, you get treated great what everyone else gets treated as less. The higher-ups don't know because they're in the office running behind the scenes operations, but people fear retribution have a say anything against the precious EVM's.

Some Stews are getting a big head and don't want to help the bartenders, we are supposed to work at is the team and if they need us to go down to the galley to dump the waste bucket, we should help them. Yet only a few people seem to help them out and that's not fair.

    Advice to Management

Organize better. Be prepared for large holidays. There's no reason we should ever be denied our breaks just because were running behind schedule because the other crew didn't reset or clear up on time. That's on them. Not us.

Don't play favorites and tell EVMs to stop as well.

Make sure new hires can actually lift allotted weight before hiring them.

I worked at Hornblower Cruises and Events full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The HR team was amazing, everyone is very friendly, helpful and they all got each other back.

    Cons

    No room to move up.

    Advice to Management

Provide more opportunities and promotion for staffs. Should promote people within the team rather than hiring someone outside the organization.

I have been working at Hornblower Cruises and Events (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Cool location to work, some ability to advance into a new position just without pay that reflects the requirements etc.

    Cons

Work-Life balance, pay, management structor, no bonuses and support from upper management.

    Advice to Management

Support your team, don't nickle and dime your team because you are not a compitent manager.

I have been working at Hornblower Cruises and Events part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great location on the water. The employees are great and there is a great sense of family. Pay is competitive at hire. Flexible hours. Sense of accomplishment on events. Great team work. Family meals for the crew after events.

    Cons

Will not got get raises for a while so although starting rate is great you will not get raises later, because of this, people are indirectly encouraged to leave after a year or two. Lack of management mostly because of the first con I listed. I have been with company three years and have had 4 different Sous Chefs. Communication between upper management and employees is missed. The work is event based, so there are times when you will not be scheduled to work usually from Jan to June. Two jobs necessary.

    Advice to Management

Better communication between upper management and crew. Meetings on a smaller level monthly or bi-monthly to go over overall goals and changes. We need to build a rapport between office and crew.

    Pros

    - lots of autonomy
    - friendly, down-to-earth people
    - crew is committed to doing a good job
    - work on the water in a beautiful setting

    Cons

    - if you need tons of rules, not the place to be

    Pros

Great flexibility with schedule. Super nice staff and a very fun environment to work at. You are on a boat on Marina Del Rey how bad can it be?

    Cons

Consistency of work. You may be busy and have lots of work and then once winter comes it can slow down. You have to factor that in and most likely will need two jobs to stay afloat financially.

    Advice to Management

Meet with stews and bartenders after they train new hires to decide whether or not the new hire is a fit or not.

    Pros

Excellent group of people committed to their jobs!

    Cons

Management continues to miss the mark in representing and supporting their employees. Employees remain severely underpaid, overwork, and under staffed. Morale is at an all time low!

    Advice to Management

Stop trying to enforce Q2 when it's not practiced...it starts at the end! Allow employees to do their jobs...micromanaging is not the helpful!

    Pros

Th people are nice, good hourly, not too complicated, you can move up fairly quick and they really want to keep their employees.

    Cons

Sometimes you have to work a late night night and then be back early morning, also you have to drive down to marina deal Rey on rotation when they need help which seems to be often, no gas reimbursement for the drive
