I have been working at Hornblower Cruises and Events full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Many crew members have been with the company 20 years or more, a testament to keeping people happy and growing.

    Cons

Tour and Travel industry jobs are not the highest paying jobs, if you're in it for the money, the sales organization has the best potential for growth.

    Advice to Management

Advance the Q2, quality training, increase distribution of Admirals passes for good work and extra efforts, spotlight more of efforts with community.

    Pros

Working on a boat in the SF Bay; a really great group of ladies in the accounting department

    Cons

The pay is RIDICULOUSLY LOW and now way for most in accounting to survive. In my time there, a little more than a year, I received a raise that was more like a slap in the face. THEN THERE IS THE MANAGEMENT TEAM. The leadership is offensive and disinterested in the input or progression of their team-members.

    Advice to Management

TRIM THE MANAGEMENT AND PAY YOUR EMPLOYEES.

they overwork you and pay you less then you deserve

    Advice to Management

I have been working at Hornblower Cruises and Events full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great product. Location ideal for commuting. There are amazing people working there.

    Cons

Code of ethics?? Faux family environment. Lacking policy and procedures. Major trust, and communication issues between management and team. Compensation well below market value. Lack of concern for overall team wellness.

    Advice to Management

Work with team instead of against. Include in decision making when it comes to job impact. Create and implement policy and procedures. Work on communicating effectively. Implement training for new hires. Promote growth opportunities. Compensate team fairly.

I have been working at Hornblower Cruises and Events part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Working on the San Diego bay is beautiful. You get to meet people from all over the world. There are many different events and it keeps things interesting. The staff is extremely close nit.

    Cons

It's very physically demanding. You don't always make tips, but the higher wage makes up for it.

    Advice to Management

Keep us motivated by complimenting us, especially during the holidays.

I have been working at Hornblower Cruises and Events part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    -SOME Nice co-workers
-Beautiful views of Newport Beach and Balboa Island
-Free food if any left over
    -Free beverages
    -Good starting pay

    Cons

This place runs on cliques. If you are one of the little pets of the EVMs, you get treated great what everyone else gets treated as less. The higher-ups don't know because they're in the office running behind the scenes operations, but people fear retribution have a say anything against the precious EVM's.

Some Stews are getting a big head and don't want to help the bartenders, we are supposed to work at is the team and if they need us to go down to the galley to dump the waste bucket, we should help them. Yet only a few people seem to help them out and that's not fair.

    Advice to Management

Organize better. Be prepared for large holidays. There's no reason we should ever be denied our breaks just because were running behind schedule because the other crew didn't reset or clear up on time. That's on them. Not us.

Don't play favorites and tell EVMs to stop as well.

Make sure new hires can actually lift allotted weight before hiring them.

    Advice to Management

    Pros

    Flexible schedule
    Great co-workers
    Wonderful working location
The discounts that come with being an employee are pretty stellar as well.

    Cons

Bosses were weird and standoffish. I once had a manager email me while sitting right next to me instead of speaking with me about an issue. Also, no access to parking made it tough.

    Advice to Management

Be more vocal with staff and a little team building would go a long way.
