I worked at Horseshoe Bay Resort (More than a year)

    Pros

Some days were very chill, coworkers were nice, cooks in Lantana next door would feed me in exchange for lattes.

    Cons

HSB Resort is now managed by Crescent but it's still a wreck, if not worst. Employees all hate their lives.

    Advice to Management

Make employees feel like their work MEANS something. Actually look your people in the eyes when you talk to them.

I worked at Horseshoe Bay Resort full-time

    Pros

Getting to work in the most beautiful environment overlooking Lake LBJ and a 1st class property. Guests are very friendly and tip very well.

    Cons

It can be hot in the middle of the summer, but the management is good at providing Gatorade and water consistently throughout the day to the staff. It can get hectic on holidays during the summer, but it is like that at any F&B establishment looking to make money during the summer.

    Advice to Management

Take advice from front line employees when they have recommendations to better the company. And just enable them more on a day to day basis.

I have been working at Horseshoe Bay Resort full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The resort is so large it offers such a wide variety of opportunities. If you want to move up or work in a different department that is an option.

    Cons

It is a resort so they are demanding of your time and you work weekends and holidays.

    Advice to Management

Include your employees. Make them feel valued. If they enjoy their job and if the pay is decent they will do a better job and want to please. Remember they have families and life events so be flexible on requests for time off.

I worked at Horseshoe Bay Resort (More than 5 years)

    Pros

A beautiful resort full of potential. A variety of outlets to work in. Small town, resort feel and inexpensive cost of living compared to Austin. The hourly employees are down to earth, sincere and great to work with.

    Cons

Constant management turnover. Douglas Jaffe III was great to work with and had great vision. Once he left and the Marriott transplants were placed in management it went down hill. They were not interested in your experience. They wanted to dictate what was to be done and was constantly changing how it was to be done because they could not make up their minds. If you weren't part of the in-crowd of management your were easily dismissed.

    Advice to Management

drop the Marriott transplants in management

    Pros

    Great golf courses, Great Members

    Cons

Terrible Management, Upper Management doesn't care at all about it's employees, Owners put zero money back into the way outdated resort, Everyone is just out for themselves, no one cares about making it better, no accountability for anything (employees late everyday and no one cares) THEY WILL WORK YOU RIDICULOUS HOURS IF YOU ARE ON SALARY. 6 day work weeks 10 hr days!

    Advice to Management

Show your good employees that you care, Pay attention to your members requests, Golf runs this resort pay attention to that, put some money back into the facility

    Pros

Learned a lot about hospitality industry. The place is beautiful and if you like golf that's the place to be.

    Cons

Not so open minded about different cultures. Slowly they're trying to change that but it's going to take a while.

    Advice to Management

    Learn more about different cultures

    Pros

Beautiful place to work and live
Guests can be awesome to deal with
Culture of hourly staff is great, I really enjoyed the staff beneath me, they worked hard for me
There are good Managers here, you just may not work for them

    Cons

VERY inexperienced CEO with no work history, his Family owns the resort. He has no concept of logistics. Last minute changes to hours of operation abound, no consistency across the board.
For Managers, budget constraints are tied to things beyond your department's control, and you are forced to operate within them at the cost of Service standards.

This is NOT a good career move for a Hospitality professional, stick with Marriott if you can.

By my count we lost over 75 Management level staff members in less than 18 months. Huge management turnover, not conducive to a growing Resort. Gone through 3 General Manager Figures in as many years.

Staff is not valued, I was asked to fire good employees because of minor infractions that barely warranted a write up.

CEO and Ownership family will take up a lot of your time, asking for things that are hard to accomplish during periods of high occupancy, making it impossible to please guests without offending ownership and vice versa.

All outlets are constantly understaffed, with a huge emphasis on "No Overtime".

    Advice to Management

Hire a CEO from elsewhere with an actual Resume', keep the family out of running the business. Hire competence, and give the hired Management a chance to run things before changing everything. Value your hourly staff more, they truly are your most valuable resource but you have been telling them point blank that they are replaceable and very easily so.
