Horton's Home Lighting - Easy & Engaging Work

May 3, 2018 - Lighting Designer in Chicago, IL

    Pros

Learning environment Easy work Engaging industry Excellent staff Casual end of Business-Casual atmosphere Loved working here, it really was one of my favorite jobs. Management supported you, customers were relatively easy to deal with, and the hardest part was when other parts of the supply chain broke down. Setting expectations solves most issues, days were easy, day ended sharply at closing, and never have to take your work home with you. You get to use your brain, and spare your body.

    Cons

Company behind on its financial goals, low commissions but decent base-rate and benefits Everything done on old computers or on paper, no DIALux/3D/CAD rendering

    Great company. Family feel. Underpaid

    Pros

You become close with everyone working at Hortons. Everyone there is very driven and sales are the most important part of the job for most people. You get to work with different people from different lines of the company and there are lots of fun events that go on in LaGrange that Hortons is involved with. It is a very influential company in LaGrange

    Cons

I was definitely underpaid for the amount of time I worked there. The opportunity for advancement really wasn't there either. I could have gotten a better job elsewhere but the company culture was to fantastic.

    Pros

There are a lot of opportunities to problem solve here.

    Cons

Older technology creates inefficient work flow between the retail and consulting side of this business.

    Pros

Wonderful team of great people that can work hard and give their due diligence while also making time for some top-quality mingling here and there. Communication is on point and we get A LOT of work done with few people.

    Cons

Understaffed and over-worked, but the co-workers have become some of my best friends over the years especially after testing our patience with each other on extremely bust days. Management could be a little stingy and I went 5 years without a raise.
