    Don’t believe them

    Pros

You get a pay check and it always clears the bank, I have never had a check not clear.

    Cons

The management has a different idea of who they are than reality. They paint a really rosy financial picture that isn’t true.

    Pros

There are a lot of opportunities to problem solve here.

    Cons

Older technology creates inefficient work flow between the retail and consulting side of this business.

    Not a great place

    Nov 2, 2019 - Sales Associate/Cashier

    Pros

Get skills on putting customer information into the system, working two different companies under one POS.

    Cons

Having to wear unappealing khakis and shirts that doesn’t look anything like business wear. Not having enough hours given. Poor management. As a cashier they don’t want full timers and keep hiring kids. Managers are not socially appropriate. Threatens to take money deduction if you don’t return their shirts.

So Much Potential, But Wasted on Disinterested Management

    Pros

The industry is interesting, the work can be fun problem solving and people genuinely appreciate your skills when you develop a book of business. Friendly employees in the trenches with you.

    Cons

Comparatively very low commission, old computer software, very paperwork driven, and a management that has been in these positions for years they don't feel the need to change. Instances of belittling and dismissive behavior were commonplace. I've witnessed sales associated be shouted at on the sales floor. The owner is absent, often 'out golfing' rather than responding to concerns so you truly are on your own.

    Doesn't Recommend

    Pros

My co-workers were great. Good for a part-time job

    Cons

Lots of drama that never gets addressed. It's almost normal to get sworn at by any member for the leadership team. Lots of expectations with little to no rewards. I had many responsibilities added to my job description after starting there, and no ability to get a raise after working there for years. Lastly, employees that worked there and were family friends of the owner got treated better than everyone else.

    Warehouse Manager

    Pros

Wonderful team of great people that can work hard and give their due diligence while also making time for some top-quality mingling here and there. Communication is on point and we get A LOT of work done with few people.

    Cons

Understaffed and over-worked, but the co-workers have become some of my best friends over the years especially after testing our patience with each other on extremely bust days. Management could be a little stingy and I went 5 years without a raise.

Horton's Home Lighting - Easy & Engaging Work

May 3, 2018 - Lighting Designer in Chicago, IL

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Learning environment Easy work Engaging industry Excellent staff Casual end of Business-Casual atmosphere Loved working here, it really was one of my favorite jobs. Management supported you, customers were relatively easy to deal with, and the hardest part was when other parts of the supply chain broke down. Setting expectations solves most issues, days were easy, day ended sharply at closing, and never have to take your work home with you. You get to use your brain, and spare your body.

    Cons

Company behind on its financial goals, low commissions but decent base-rate and benefits Everything done on old computers or on paper, no DIALux/3D/CAD rendering
