    I worked at Hostway full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Very flexible when it comes to family and holiday time. Tacos on Friday and two catered lunches a month.

    Cons

    The circle of executives are good ol' boys worried about org charts. Customers are promised a product that is NOT delivered, every single solution has issues and the customer is left to deal with an overworked and underpaid support team. Some issues are NEVER dealt with and a customer could be in lingo for months before the environment is up to par. The sales team is only worried about the sale and the signing of a contract, once this is done the customer is kicked out the door and expected "To Be On Their Own." Be prepared to be laid off at any time, there was two rounds of layoffs in 2016, one was done 2 weeks before Christmas. Rude managers and directors who have no professionalism and no couth. There are long, awkward silences on conference calls and no resolution after an hour on the phone, too many attitudes and not enough participation. This reflects on the employee which in return reflects to the customer and the service they deserve.

    Advice to Management

    Stop wasting time on getting new sales and worry about the existing customers before they up and walk. You can only give so many credits on their monthly invoice before a customer realizes they are never getting what they need or want. Pay attention to support and cut the time it takes to deliver. Stop overpaying the top 3 tiers of the C's, VP's and Directors, they don't really care, they are only there for a check, not the overall sake of the company.

    I worked at Hostway full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    * Gain valuable experience
    * work with knowledgeable individuals
    * work from home
    * flexible working days
    * a few good people still working there

    Cons

    * Senior Management is clueless as to the direction of the business
    * hidden agenda's by Senior Management
    * long working days
    * no education benefits, you have to pretty much train yourself
    * crappy hardware given to employees

    Advice to Management

    Get rid of the senior leaders who polluted the vision and direction of the company. Rather than hire technically sound individuals, a hiring spree of senior directors was done which eventually lead to a massive turnover then layoffs. My recommendation is to stop the layoffs and try to salvage employee moral and reinvest in existing products to make them marketable.

    I wish you the best of luck.

    Pros

    Reasonable level of autonomy
    Lots of good people to work with (outside management)

    Cons

    No career development, lack of leadership skills, lack of structure.

    Managers and executives are often shipped in from other companies. They try to make changes, they cannot get them done, they leave. Slowly Hostway has been left with the dregs who cannot be employed anywhere else. They have no idea what they're doing.

    Constant cuts to operations have left the company unable to support its customer base. Pretty much issues are left to bounce around until the complaining customer takes their business elsewhere, hence resolving the problem! Customer reviews, like the reviews here, are absolutely atrocious. They're always getting slammed on Facebook, and righty so. Hostway employees have been pushing the reviews up by rating them 5 star. And reflect a company with deep-deep problems.

    Nobody knows how most of the systems work, because we laid off the people who made them.

    They look to be streamlining the business in order to sell it on (it's owned by a venture capitalist company at the moment). However I doubt they'll find a buyer before all the customers leave, as it's certainly not a customer focuses streamlining.

    Advice to Management

    Change the management. The company is ill, and it's getting more ill every day.

    Invest in operations. Look after the customers first, instead of trying to make the company look attractive (on paper) so the investors can cash out.

    I have been working at Hostway (More than a year)

    Pros

    I work on commission so the pay is adequate and I like the hours.

    Cons

    Absolutely no direction from management. Products are released that are severely underdeveloped and lacking in value. Promises are routinely broken and the feeling is one of panic and desperation.

    Advice to Management

    sell this company to people who have common sense please, it's still salvageable and in the right hands it can become a real competitor on the market.

    Pros

    Good vacation time and holiday pay for most standard holidays with a typical option to work on those days if you want to.

    Cons

    Pay is not commensurate with industry standards with other hosting companies and there are hardly ever any reviews or raises at all, no opportunity for advancement to speak of, no feeling of having a career path here. Management is disjointed and does not disseminate information effectively so that all areas of the business know what's going on in order to do their jobs properly. Typical the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing situation.. management never listens to advice from the people who deal with the daily operations they make unilateral decisions without informing themselves of the best practices that should be taken into consideration while planning. They move very slowly on new technology development.

    Advice to Management

    If you want to sustain long term growth it is critical to involve the people in making business decisions who will actually be supporting the products you intend to sell. That will make for happier, more satisfied customers as well as more satisfied employees.

    Pros

    In the begining Hostway gave me the opportunity to learn and grow - they seemed to have faith in their staff and everyone was like family

    Cons

    Management became unresponsive to employee needs - would not compensate people for how they performed but who they knew - disregarded people who worked hard and faithfully for them - They moved valueable departments to Florida where incompetance was rampant.

    Advice to Management

    Really take a look at who is working for you and recognize your talent - Treat people fairly and with respect - Lucas needs to not trust management alone because they are not truthfull to him and he needs ot reach out to the people who are grinding away trying to make a success instead of showing them the door to try and make a buck. Look close because the change to Florida cost a lot more money, and customers, than it saved him.

    Pros

    - Free Lunch on Wednesdays
    - Family like work culture
    - Flexible vacation time
    - Great learning opportunities for a driven individual
    - Good learning opportunity for someone fresh out of college

    Cons

    - Wages for Technical Support and System Administrators do not keep up with industry peers
    - Managers and Directors do not have a former education, lack industry foresight, and generally make poor decisions
    - Company is not large enough to survive competition in the long run

    Advice to Management

    Keep your LinkedIn profile and resume up to date. The company will be sold or go out of business within 2 - 5 years time.

    I worked at Hostway full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Good benefits, friendly people, and a good work environment. It was always easy to get time off to go on vacation or an event.

    Cons

    Unmaintained home grown software is everywhere. They adopt software as its being phased out in the industry. Very few employees that care about staying current.

    Advice to Management

    Stay current in the industry you are working in. Take advise from your employees more often. Better communication between departments and from management is needed.

    Pros

    Depending on where you are located, good/friendly co-workers. You can learn as much as you would like to.

    Cons

    Bad employee morale throughout the company. Upper management doesn't have a cohesive, unified vision. A lot of inter-departmental politics. Caliber of sales & marketing staff is extremely low.

    Advice to Management

    Caring & listening to employees will go a long way. Be results-oriented. Best to not keep VPs around that continue to miss their objectives on a regular basis.

    I worked at Hostway full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Work culture is casual and friendly. Decent work-life balance. Occasional free food/snacks/movies/outings to keep the employees entertained. Less stress as once you get into the routine set here, there are hardly any challenges to throw you off your game.

    Cons

    Lack of vision and strategy. Lack of effective training. Lack of growth opportunities. Salary doesn't compare to other organisations in the same domain/field. The in-house tools need major bug fixing.

    Advice to Management

    Envision a plan and work towards it. Stop changing it at the very first roadblock/obstacle.
