    Pros

Straightforward retail job with retails hours.

Payroll varies with sales so if you are smart with your resources there shouldn't really be any problems.

This is the only retail job that I did not feel 100% disconnected from the corporate overlords. Buyers, regional, and corporate level executives were all approachable/reachable if there was a need to do so.

The company does a good job of changing to keep up with customer demands/trends.

Awesome discount, Overtime severely frowned upon so hours are nicely consistent.

High district standards makes you push yourself and your team to be better.

The store environment is what the management makes it. Building a passionate, fun team that works hard will make the job a positive experience.

    Cons

Low pay guidelines for associates makes keeping a skilled team difficult.

I have been working at Hot Topic full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The culture present throughout the company makes you want to work hard and take pride in your work. They offer good bonuses and incentives, and I feel like they value me as an employee.

    Cons

Sometimes have to do time consuming projects with less support than desired, but its definitely always manageable with the right action plans in place.

    Advice to Management

Take pride in your work and store, and don't let the small stuff overwhelm! Also, customer service is key! Always make sure that you're effectively prioritizing your customer service and tasking, and you'll be able to get good results!

    Pros

Being able to wear literally whatever you want. I can show up to work in cosplay if I want. Multiple costume events through the year region wide. Whole month of October we dress up.
Fun environment. Like a second family.
Always lots to do but generally a really fun work environment.

    Cons

The only con I have is pay. Store managers cap at $20 an hour.

    Advice to Management

    Pay your management team better!

I have been working at Hot Topic (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Fun environment, awesome customers. and really fun products. Your experience really depends on the store manager and the district manager

    Cons

Corporate is very unorganized, not very much development, started doing credit cards and they push them too hard for a customer base that is mostly teenagers.

    Advice to Management

When your staff shows initiative and wants to move up in company listen and help them. There has been a lot of staff that leaves because there is no development.

    Pros

Fun environment, diverse customers/employees, great training program (when you do get trained elsewhere), great benefits package, access to peers and open-door policy, competitive bonus contests (sometimes for manager only/sometimes for entire staff), would recommend to friends and family, low to mild turnover rate, and opportunity to advance is good.

    Cons

Lower volume stores = Single coverage or two part coverage, heavy workloads most days can be tough to get through if working single coverage, and minimum starting pay for all levels.

    Pros

Great music and customers! Had a great time with all my associates and enjoyed meeting new people. The fact that there is not really a dress code is awesome!

    Cons

Hourly management, hard to get everything that needed to be done all at once. Not enough payroll to have decent floor coverage, so theft was kinda high.

    Advice to Management

Give managers an option to be salaried.
