I have been working at Hotwire full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great product and brand. It's fun to work in travel. The team is international and very fun. It is easy to balance work and personal life. Great opportunities to grow and try different things.
Hotwire is part of Expedia Inc so you work for a medium size company with the benefits of a big multi-national.
Things move fast, culture is to take risks and try new things.
The leadership team is smart and trustworthy.

    Cons

Talents don't stay too long. Some people have been here forever but don't have the passion and energy anymore to get their team excited.
They have an annual manager feedback but even bad managers stay in place.

    Advice to Management

    Take manager feedback more seriously

    Pros

Great industry, plenty of opportunities, nice travel perks

    Cons

The growth years are in the past, seemingly continuous leadership changes since 2013

I have been working at Hotwire full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Smaller company with big pockets (Expedia). Lots of opportunities in SFO area. Great people.

    Benefits are good

    Cons

Leadership overall is good - some VP level leadership is out of touch with Sales/Management level or people in the field but have strong opinions without knowing the day to day.

Unless you live in the area, you will be held back with career growth.

    Advice to Management

I'd say over all lower level management is decent (regional managers and account managers). The issue is where the VP level comes in. Very out of touch with sales and errors more on the negative side of things vs what is good.

    Pros

Fun industry (who doesn't like to travel), great product (doing some cutting edge things especially in technology on both the web and mobile apps), smart people, great benefits, great location in downtown SF.

    Cons

Hotwire has slowly been taken over by the Expedia cyborg. Plusses and minuses for this from a business perspective. Mostly negative, in my opinion, from a culture standpoint. Long-term growth and success is a question mark.

Thanks for your important feedback. We are truly a culture of travel geeks! There will always be growing pains as a business matures, but we're excited about our future!

    Pros

New execs have made the company a more forward-thinking, smart place to work. Smart in the sense that employees are beginning to look at the product critically and holistically.

    Cons

Some individuals are territorial over their work and lack the skill to manage their time effectively.

I have been working at Hotwire full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Amazing work/life balance, great benefits and travel perks, on-site gym, smart and nice people, great office/location...the new president is extremely insightful/smart and has a clear vision on the direction he wants to take the company.

    Cons

Often too conservative and not willing to take risks (this is changing), growth opportunities are limited, compensation is lower than competitors.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the clear vision and transparency. However, need to boost moral and inject more fun into the culture in order to get the company back to its roots. Employees/talent afraid to join the company or stay due to negative opinions circulating, this is changing, but really need to highlight the benefits of the company and it's strong brand.
