I have been working at Houlihan Lokey full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Interesting middle market clients and large office if one desires to be based in Los Angeles. Historically pay in line with street.

    Cons

Pay has slipped in recent years given amount of workload. Some corporate finance industry groups are having difficulties and this is directly impacting mid to junior level employees.

I have been working at Houlihan Lokey full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Culture continues to be on an improving trajectory.
Encourages employees to be involved in community charities.
Real commitment to overall physical health of employees.
Has steadily improved business almost every year.

    Cons

Separation of Church and State between financial staff and corporate staff is palpable. Company continues to foster an attitude that corporate staff are less valuable.
Occasional staff cuts have not been well organized or implemented.
Instead of bragging about recent excellence in healthcare coverage they offer employees, they decided to make employees pay more to be "closer to the average, but still above"

    Advice to Management

Better incentives for corporate staff to excel and improve profitability could yield more than you may think.

I have been working at Houlihan Lokey full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    * Great office location
    * Free food, drinks, and snacks
    * Very clean, modern, and new office.
    * Some of the corporate staff is nice.

    Cons

    * By far the worst company/ bank I have ever worked for. *. Poorly mismanaged on the corporate side. I have never seen so many incompetent people in high level corporate positions.
    * technology is a JOKE.... The IT staff is useless and not helpful when issues come up.
    * Leadership is so absent from day-to-day that it's embarrassing and shows that they lack the basic understanding of what they should know for their position.
    * Morale is low.... Everyone in my department is looking for new jobs.
    * turnover at HL is a major issue that no one is willing to address.

    Advice to Management

Fire everyone in Human Capital Management and start over.

    Pros

Good transaction experience, no shortage of deal flow
    At or above street pay

    Cons

Losing ground to HW & WB
Understaffed & high turnover, in particular consumer and healthcare M&A

    Advice to Management

Practice what you preach. Verticals are so siloed with no corporate oversight to improve on institutional problems.

I have been working at Houlihan Lokey (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Small deal teams with good exposure to different industries. Pay is not bad (but not great)

    Cons

HL really lost the team feeling and culture after going public. Leadership is lacking direction within the FAS group which has resulted in the exit of many talented members. Feels more like a money grab with upper officers taking credit for other members work. Very greedy and self-promoting.

Officers are expected to market and bring in business but are to busy doing analyst and associate work. Very little marketing support to help develop new clients.

    Advice to Management

Give direction and support to your team. Truly promote marketing by leading by example and not just hosting an in-house workshop.
