I have been working at Housing Works part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Still have committed staff, clients still feel ownership of organization, great brand name

    Cons

Highly hierarchical, union busters, increasing caseloads in excessive of contractual maximums, almost stepford-wives quality of upper management

I worked at Housing Works full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - The clients were the driving factor of the job. Advocating for and empowering those in need was very rewarding. - You learn a lot about social services and social work, especially within the HIV/AIDS community - Co-workers were supportive since they dealt with the same issues.

    Cons

    - Higher-ups and HR are completely disconnected from the struggles staff experience. The company prioritizes numbers over quality service. That is why I had a caseload of 98 clients at one point whilst at Health Homes. - The sites are poorly maintained and there were frequent pest infestations in the residential buildings. - I had no support during my final months at the job - I had several months without proper supervision and only communicated with my supervisor via email, even though they worked at the same site. I was constantly intimidated, ridiculed and micro-managed by them; when I finally filed reports to HR, I was assured things would change but things just got worse and the harassment continued. - Numerous coworkers and clients had negative interactions with this supervisor, and their complaints were also unaddressed. I ultimately resigned for mental health reasons which many of my former coworkers did as well. - Turnover is extremely high which negatively affects both clients and staff. Burnout is painfully real at this organization and the majority of staff can attest to this. There just isn't enough time in the work day to address unpredicted client issues (which arise at least 5x a day) and complete required assessments, service plans, and notes. And you do not get paid OT. It's unfair that staff is unsupported because in result, the clients are unsupported. Clients are the ones who suffer the most from this.

I worked at Housing Works full-time

    Pros

No expectations, no one does much of any actual work and they can't fire you because no one wants to work there

    Cons

Bosses take off frequently and leave work for underlings to do. Focus is making money, not taking care of clients or paying employees working salaries or taking bottom-up advice, everything is top-down and rarely informed. Senior staff takes credit for work you do. Union busting efforts stopped a union from being voted on for 2 years. The list goes on! Truly my worst employment experience. They even fired people on maternity leave when covid started. They also said that staff couldn't wear gloves, because wearing plastic gloves helped spread the virus.
