I worked at Housing Works full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Helping an underserved, often unseen community find support, health, happiness and friendship through programs and activities plus activism is a win!

    Cons

My manager was interested in furthering a career. Thry were very good at making that a priority and hiding it as can do.

    Advice to Management

Keep striving, treat all employees equal and stay true to the goals.

I have been working at Housing Works full-time

    Pros

    The clients are the pros

    Cons

Typical issues in a social services org. poor management which trickles and affects everyone below. Hypocritical, insecure management who uses intimidation tactics. Micromanagement. Management is not in tune. Rarely do you receive appreciation for what you do, and if you do, it’s in the form of a company party and not from management. A lot of other things you won’t find out until after you are hired. The HR... benefits are not the greatest either unless you’ve been employed for many years. They don’t have holiday pay. Paid time off has to be used towards the holidays, and there are only about 8 holidays that you’ll have off for the year. Very low retention rates that could be higher if management were compassionate and showed that they actually care about the employees.

    Advice to Management

CEO and SVPs should get to know more about the management who works below them.

I worked at Housing Works full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Wonderful good-hearted staff, opportunities to gain new experience if you take initiative, some bosses don't micro-manage, caters growth opportunities to individual interests, paid to attend advocacy events, can collaborate with other programs

    Cons

Management is more concerned with profits than employees' safety, business is growing and merging without consideration for improving care for staff, understaffing, questionable practices/reporting, discrimination against trans masculine folks and cisgender women, high turnover, violent clients, no security

    Advice to Management

Listen to staff's needs, and not just in regards to your expansion.

I have been working at Housing Works full-time for less than a year

    Pros

There are no pros for this department.

    Cons

Upon hire, they do not inform you of the benefits, including paying for holidays with your PTO bank. So for 90 days while you are on probation, and holidays pass you get no pay. I have made complaints about bullying and harassing in the workplace and my complaints to HR has fallen on deaf ears. I have emailed them questions about time off and other miscellaneous questions and have not received a response. They... even screwed up my check when it was supposed to be direct deposit and they stated it was an error.

    Advice to Management

Stop hiring people giving them false advertising just so you can trap them in this horrible company.
