I have been working at Housing Works full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Almost every staff member brings their whole self to work in their commitment to assist people and communities in real need

    Cons

Not enough information sharing between people who know the history and newbies!

    Advice to Management

Tap into some of your long time staff members to create story telling modules are historical videos to share

I have been working at Housing Works full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Competitive/above-avg salary, benefits, perks, and time off. But that's about all working there has going for it.

    Cons

Little to no transparency regarding day to day decisions. A lot of top-down instruction on what to do and how to do it. Services often do not reach clients the way they should.

    Advice to Management

Acknowledge how much little time many of your clients are receiving from the agency. Stop sending supervisors the message that they should have authoritarian styles of management. Encourage a culture of more frequent communication by management as to what the barriers are to making requested changes rather than just saying "we're discussing it" for months and years. Introduce measures of accountability of management to staff, and educate management on those measures so that they can start holding you accountable for more timely hiring in the event of turnover, for lowering caseloads if you've promised to.

I worked at Housing Works full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Vacation benefits are excellent . Student loan repayment benefits. They offer Dental and medical. 403b contribution is matched by employer as well.

    Cons

Not much room for growth. Not enough staffers to support infrastructure. High turn over of staff. Blah blah blah blah

I worked at Housing Works full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The time off policy is excellent. You accumulate a lot of time off in a short span of time. Best time off policy of any company I have ever worked for.

    Cons

There are times when staff members are stretched too thin because of lack of staff, qualified or not. Also, sometimes staff members are promoted and assigned more responsibilities when they are ready because it is cheaper to promote from within rather than higher externally.

I have been working at Housing Works full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Awesome benefits, including tuition reimbursement (not a lot but still) and additional funding for selfcare. Great environment to work. Coworkers are amazing and everyone really is here for the clients.

    Cons

Unrealistic expectations from management at times, but that's with every job.

    Pros

Got a lot of experience in the short time I was there. Nice people to work with, conveniently located. Was enjoyable.

    Cons

No room to move up, security is lax, people sometimes come and go as they please. All in all it's more good than bad.

    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at Housing Works full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Your fellow co-workers become long term friends

    Cons

Most managers are not equipped with skills on motivating staff in their work. My supervisor was an LCSW, who continuously made micro-aggressions towards me and made it a hostile environment to work in.

    Advice to Management

This agency is run mostly by cisgender white males. With the limited diversity in your management and senior management staff, it is hard to believe that this agency fights for social justice.
