I have been working at Housing & Development Board full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Stable. Every year has small increment regardless of economy. Year end bonus pegged to economy. Job security rated 5 star. It has a good work life balance i must say.

    Cons

High stress, may include a fair amount of ad hoc job. Handling too many things like juggling 10 balls while cooking nasi lemak and preparing chendol plus make sure your baby dont cry.

    Advice to Management

Lastly, the common “management needs to be more reasonable n listen to people on the ground” applies to every place n company blablabla.

I have been working at Housing & Development Board full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    1. Good work life balance for some 2. Colleagues are helpful, direct boss is good 3. Good pay 4. Iron rice bowl

    Cons

    1. Work becomes monotonous within first 2 years of working here 2. Organisation is extremely biased towards scholars as with all stat boards and ministries. Scholars will be given the bulk of opportunities to engage in special projects. If you are not one, you will be doing same things day in and out. 3. Most people stay in this organisation because if family commitments 4. Skills not very transferable or... valuable to the outside private sector 5. Promotion depends on how visible you are 6. If you are not a scholar, you don't get opportunities but arrowed to participate in a CCA so as to increase your visibility. (Seriously lame) 7. Some Director and Deputy Director positions have been occupied by the same people for donkey years. Very difficult to move up. Really, the gripe of working here is the limited opportunities to do something else other than the mundane work again and again, day in day out, month beginning month end, year after year..... Especially if you are not a scholar. Really get so sick and tired of it..

    Advice to Management

While it is understandable that you give the opportunities to scholars so that they can prove themselves to justify the finances that the organisation has put in for them (i.e. their education etc.), pls look into those who are not scholars as well. They are also striving hard, but the opportunities for them are so little. So little that they have to take up CCA (which by the way, nobody wants to join) so that they... can be "seen" by you. Please be more fair AND TRANSPARENT in performance grading and relook into the ranking system.

    No opinion of CEO

I worked at Housing & Development Board full-time

    Pros

    Nice colleagues n good benefits

    Cons

HR is the worst dept to work in. Lots of politics, favouritism n high turnover esp in the leadership & career devt team. Awful n mean boss who manages bosses but not staff under her; takes all the credit n tai-chi as many responsibilites as she can. Nightmarish experience working there.

    Advice to Management

Look at the turnover stats n conduct your own investigation instead of listening to what is reported to you.
