I worked at Houston Astros (More than a year)

    Pros

Directors are vey upbeat. Good office culture

    Cons

Hours are very long in season. On average 60 per week if not more. Very low pay, most people never hit their goal for commission. If they do the season is pretty much over and you start to sell for the next season leaving you with your base salary. *DO NOT TAKE THIS JOB UNLESS YOU ARE RIGHT OUT OF COLLEGE WITH LOW BILLS*

    Advice to Management

Pay better. Company outings are nice but pay motivates people the most

I worked at Houston Astros full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Perks of working in sports, tickets to every game, etc. Definitely a unique experience, and the co-workers were awesome.

    Cons

Compensation was minimal, as with most entry-level sports positions. The sales department particularly, one of my co-workers calculated that our salary (without any commission, which could be very minimal during the off-season) qualified us for welfare, or food stamps, I can't remember which.

    Advice to Management

Since I've left, all the management I worked under have been replaced in light of the new ownership. I hear things have turned around significantly.

    Pros

You are around sports all the time. This could be a negative too depending on the person.
You get to meet some powerful people.
The people you work with are great.

    Cons

    Long hours during the season
    Not a lot of transparency
Under paid compared to other industries outside of sports

    Advice to Management

Get more transparency. Sometimes it seems like there is no direction. When something goes wrong everyone is blaming the other department for screwing up, take responsibility.

I have been working at Houston Astros full-time

    Pros

Genuinely nice people doing their best

    Cons

Small market thinking, sometimes their best is not that good

    Pros

It's a beautiful place to work. Can't argue with the killer views

    Cons

Baseball is a tough business. It's long hours for little money. If you don't love it, it's not worth it.
