I worked at Houston's First Baptist Church (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Busy, nice place, everybody worked as a team to serve others. They had a cafe and it was big enough to walk around and get exercise at lunch. Management concerned about employees and seem to really care about you.

    Cons

I have nothing negative to say about the church or the other employees. I just wished it could have turned into a full time position so I would not have to be looking for a job now. The church has to stay on a budget.

Low pay (you don't work here for the money).

    Positive Outlook

I worked at Houston's First Baptist Church full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great benefits. Friendly. Great spiritual growth.

    Cons

Only a select few get promoted. There is an antiquated view of assistants and therefore managers can be sexist and demeaning. Poor pay.

    Advice to Management

Take management professional development. Not just minesterial. The turn over is so high with assistants because you treat them like 2nd rate citizens and are rude to them.

    Cons

I have been working at Houston's First Baptist Church part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great leadership moving in the right direction. A lot of flexibility with schedule. Lots of opportunities for personal growth. A great team environment where everyone pulls together to act and get things done. A high commitment to excellence continually drives the church forward.

    Cons

A small department is expected to perform as many tasks as a large department. Pay is livable, but not the greatest.

  7. "An exciting place to work with compelling vision from senior leadership"

    Pros

Great sense of purpose and mission. Strong senior leadership. Compelling vision. Family-friendly. Collaborative environment. Open to new ideas and suggestions.

    Cons

Staff levels not always aligned with volume of work in some departments. Pay is good compared to other churches, but below what industry would pay.
