I have been working at Howard University full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Executive Leadership is comfortable with in-house promotion and offering opportunities to young professionals in management areas. They are astute with determining if the individual will make innovative and productive decisions in the perspective role.

    Cons

Programs for management development and interdepartmental collaboration is scarce.

    Advice to Management

Communication campus-wide is improving. (Thank you). However, many departments continually lack the luster to further their careers within the institution and therefore become disgruntled and stagnant in positions for 2-3 years. If a team can begin an initiative to determine departmental trends in promotion rates on campus, those people who are rarely seen by executive leadership can either feel seen and used optimally or they can discuss departing the university for competitive opportunities.
