I worked at Howdens Joinery full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good quality of life, not horrendous hours. Good incentives and work do's. Everything is at the managers discretion, if you need to take the afternoon or day, they will let you if possible without booking a day off. You truly get back what you put in with this company. Excellent training all within the company. All expenses paid whenever suits you. If anyone messes up, you are given whatever powers necessary to fix it. Definetly would go back once paid off mortgage.

    Cons

Wages are not amazing, you get an average basic of 15-24k with around 4K of bonuses, but you are selling around £60k+ a month with moving goalpost targets. You don't earn commission but instead earn builders commission on every job, so you have to sell a kitchen for more than everyone else by usually 10%. Every sales period, you are forced to offer deals for the customer to take delivery early to hit branch targets to cover other people, which ultimately poisons the lead, unless they say yes.

    Advice to Management

Be less stingy with your profit and loss and don't be afraid to pay a decent wage to keep staff. Get out of the washing machine cycle by low balling one month so you aren't putting too much pressure on staff who aren't rewarded for pulling all their leads forward.

I have been working at Howdens Joinery full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Get to travel around to clients houses and design there dream kitchens. No two are ever the same which I like due to the challenge of making every customer feel unique even if you have done a similar house type before

    Cons

It is a very sales minded Role. Targets need to be met Above all else.

    Poor holiday entitlement
