    I worked at Hoyts Cinemas

    Pros

A good first time job for teenagers. You develop important social skills like learning how to interact with people and resolve conflicts. You get to see free movies and eat popcorn. They are pretty flexible when it comes to scheduling and its easy to get days off, usually. We had holiday parties and employee of the month and top seller competitions with prizes.

    Cons

The employees are very immature, mostly because they are young. The hours can be long and go late at night, sometimes not leaving until 2am on weekends.

    Advice to Management

More raises in the step ladder

I worked at Hoyts Cinemas part-time for more than a year

      Pros

      - Cheap tickets - The staff - Unique place to work at during high school

      Cons

      - Pressure you to stay back to late hours e.g. midnight even when some kids have school the next day. - Location Manager pressures staff to ditch their prearranged plans with mates or even school excursions, because "Hoyts comes first". - Location Manager is beyond stingy with Ben & Jerry's shirts. Kept them locked in her office, and staff had to wait till their shirts were tattered and smelt of spoilt milk before...

      Advice to Management

You're working with a majority of kids who are aged 15 - 17, loosen up. Even though they're younger than you treat them with respect. You work at a cinema, it's not that deep. Get FairWork involved.

I worked at Hoyts Cinemas part-time for less than a year

      Pros

Cheap movie tickets and discounted popcorn

      Cons

They don’t allow you to cancel your shift even if you give advance notice. If you have an exam or SAC the next day they won’t allow you to cancel a shift to study. They are only flexible for their own benefit. Most businesses understand this works both ways.

      Advice to Management

Somebody is going to take this further, think about how you treat your staff. Fairwork should get involved.

I have been working at Hoyts Cinemas part-time for more than 8 years

      Pros

Really good benefits in regards to movie tickets and candy bar items, thought restrictions often placed on these

      Cons

Poor effort in keeping employees happy and willing to stay on Management encourage high turn overs, try to squeeze out older staff Very little inconsistency in company policy, always changing. Never communicated effectively with staff who then suffer as a result
