I worked at Hudson County Community College part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Communication between staff and departments is very good.
Support from administrators is very good.

    Cons

HR needs to be more careful when handling employees' records. They lost/misplaced my file when I was onboarding, and I didnt know where it had gone. They asked me to fill in another form just to complete process. Whew!

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good job!

I have been working at Hudson County Community College part-time

    Pros

The students are from diverse walks of life and committed to their education. For a good portion of students a degree at HCCC is a means to achieve their professional goals and improve their current quality of life therefore students are very self-motivated.

    Cons

Pay increase is minimal. I have worked at the college 8 years and only received a pay increase once.

I worked at Hudson County Community College part-time

    Pros

As with so many community colleges, if you're good to the students, they are good to you. Also, some colleagues are informally very helpful.

    Cons

Salary is the lowest in the area, and there's really no support system.

    Advice to Management

    Increase salary.

I have been working at Hudson County Community College part-time

    Pros

Great students, and lots of academic freedom to teach course materials.

    Cons

Horrible, parking, . HCCC is a Hispanic Serving Institution, yet there are very few minority faculty. Limited opportunities for full-time tenure track positions. Plenty of adjunct opportunities but are limited to only 10 credits. Very low pay.

    Advice to Management

More care should be given in creating a diversified faculty.

    Pros

Flexible scheduling for part-time workers, easy to network and advance if credentials are acquired, lenient supervisors, convenient location for public transportation commuters. Looks somewhat good on a resume.

    Cons

dense population = limited parking and many students with horrible attitudes resulting in academic probation. employees are definitely underpaid, especially adjuncts and part-timers. Employment politics: you've gotta know someone there and have the credentials to even fathom getting an interview from a very limited position that would serve as a raise. Employment gaps upon a semester's end could mean no work for 6 weeks and no pay for 8 weeks. Inconsistent pay; you're not paid exactly every two weeks as well.

    Advice to Management

Start offering 30+ hour weeks and consistent pay to employees. Give them a raise as well. There are too many students here and not enough workers in some departments. Get a little more strict with zero tolerance policies and security. Students smelling like marijuana should not be allowed to come back to the class after a break! Use electronic timesheets, save paper and get with the times.

I worked at Hudson County Community College (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Freedom to handle the class your own way - with guidelines, of course.

    Cons

Inconvenient parking - limit of 6 hours per week.

    Advice to Management

Periodic observations reaal unnecesary - especially to teachers with sufficient experience.

I have been working at Hudson County Community College part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I work as a part-time tutor located at the ground/basement level of the new library on Sip Avenue in Jersey City. The new facility is clean and organized, and it is well-equipped with new PC's. Other tutors are friendly, and the immediate supervisors are kind, down-to-earth, but respectable people whom you'll never be afraid to approach and talk to.

There is an overall diversity in the staff -- different races, students, professionals, young, old, and they seem to care about their job. Salary isn't that great, but it is way better than working at the fast-food industry.

The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. When a student doesn't show up for tutoring, the tutor can use the computers to do his/her personal business, may it be school project or other jobs.

    Cons

Salary isn't that high. The hours are kind of limited, too, because there are quite a number of tutors working there. If you drive going there, good luck finding a good parking spot.
