I have been working at Hudson Group full-time

    Pros

Nothing I can think of, I really tried.

    Cons

Hard work is exploited and not rewarded. Promotion from within is a joke, they hired a untrained employee from another Hudson store to be shift lead, and had the audacity to try to have crew members train someone that makes more money than them on how to do something they've been doing. Schedules are not posted in a timely fashion. Surrounding Hudson stores are a burden to say the least, they do nowhere near as much as us and get paid more of course. Very frustrating place to work if you want to work hard and get recognized.

    Advice to Management

Hold people accountable, team members and managers alike.

I worked at Hudson Group full-time

    Pros

Most of the people who work in the store(s) have been there since the beginning, so it's like small family, everyone is friendly and nice to talk with.

Hourly is good, commission is good, if you get the chance to do well selling for the month.

It's high end luxury, so it will look great on your resume when you are ready to potentially move.

    Cons

SUPER SLOW STORE! Unless you work in MAC or on the Venetian side, you do not see a lot of customers thru your shift. You could literally sell nothing for days at a time.

Department Management does not have much clue what they are doing, they spend their time out back goofing off or walking between stores. They are almost never to be found. They also LOVE to play favorites with certain associates.

    MICRO-MANAGING TO THE MAX

Store is often dirty and dusty.

No option to move up. They do not promote internally for ANY position.

    Advice to Management

Get your stuff together and realize how to run a retail store.

I have been working at Hudson Group full-time

    Pros

    Steady job with medical benefits

    Cons

Very uncomfortable corporate culture. Working in a newsstand that sells periodicals and food sounds like an easy job but the company is quite condescending in how they push their employees to 'do this and that'. Instead of being a customer service associate your basically an assembly worker being today to do the same task day after day and not really assist customers and create an inviting experience. The company's motto is 'the traveler's best friend' but if you ever walk into a Hudson Newsstand you'll be lucky to encounter someone that actually says 'hi' or assist you with your needs. Frequently we're unstaffed because the company likes to save on payroll even though we make enough money to hire additional workers. Co-workers call out on a daily basis and there's frequently not enough coverage which means long lines for customers that try to check out and stressed out employees.

There's very little growth and development and the company is always looking to save money. Corporate visits are very dramatic and not a welcoming experience.

    Advice to Management

Stop with the negative corporate culture and start appreciating your retail employees. Have a yearly employee appreciation day where you give back to the employees by hosting a pizza party or something that shows you care. Cut down/eliminate higher level management like general managers and invest in hiring more retail employees and strong managers that motivate and inspire. Many high profile companies care about their employees and give them perks because they care about employee retention but Hudson does not. Spend more money on your employees and they will be grateful.

I worked at Hudson Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Working with a very diverse team, getting to meet so many people traveling

    Cons

4 am to whenever your job is done was never in anything I had ever signed. Most day you work 12 to 16 hours and then you are expected to be back in 4 hours for your 12 to 16 hour shift again. The regional managers are completely insane. When you are opening new stores you will get to see all upper management yell cuss and scream at everyone. Sometimes you will see them have a temper tantrum on the construction workers , then witness the whole construction team walk out. For $50,000 a year you can find much better jobs

    Advice to Management

You need to treat people with respect, listening to you employees when there are problems and not ignoring them. Stop the yelling and backstabbing. Duffey will eventually take over Hudson group and start shutting things down

    Pros

It's an easy job, it's in the airport. Decent benefits if you join the union.

    Cons

Management treats you like you don't matter. Pay is too low. Extremely high turnover rate.

    Advice to Management

Employees will be the best they can be when you're good to them. You need to stop treating them so poorly. Maybe then you'll actually be able to keep employees around.

    Pros

There is nothing redeemable with this company.

    Cons

They treat all staff as numbers, not people. They have no clue of guest service. they are concerned with make a dollar and not the health or safety of their staff or guests.

    Advice to Management

Learn to see people and not just staff numbers. CEO visits locations and does not greet any of the staff. Both hourly and salaried!

I have been working at Hudson Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Secure job for being in retail

    Cons

--Company uses outdated technology. You have to manually (by hand) count out your cash drawers and write the totals on a piece of paper ..who does that anymore?
--If a customer wants to exchange an item, a manager has to fully return an item (no such thing as exchanges).
--Scheduling changes constantly without proper communication that your schedule was changed (a manager will just randomly post a new schedule on the wall and assume you will know that it changed).
--Manager schedules are not posted so you never know when managers are at work so that you may talk to them. Don't know why the company practices this policy. It seems to be a secret.
--For being a multibillion dollar company you would think they would purchase name brand quality cleaning supplies for their stores but they don't. Cheap, generic supplies (not even industrial strength).
--Constantly understaffed by employees calling out on a daily basis which always makes us understaffed and stressed out.
--Company frowns on taking time off if you don't have enough vacation accrued. If you don't have enough vacation hours you can pretty much assume you won't be able to go on vacation even if it's unpaid time off.

    Advice to Management

--Hire more employees. Even if your over on payroll it pays off because productivity decreases when you don't have enough workers. When this happens then you make less money. Hence you don't loose money in the airport world by overstaffing. Work smarter, not harder.
--Update your register systems and technology. This is 2017 not 1999. Just because the technology works doesn't mean that there isn't opportunity to upgrade.
--Stop being so frugal with expenses and invest in your employees.

    Pros

I truly can't think of a nice thing to say right now.

    Cons

Just don't do it. The environment is toxic, the hours are ridiculous. Rank and file employees get absolutely no respect from management. Corporate is completely unprofessional, especially IT and HR.

    Advice to Management

Get over yourself. You sell GUM. You wonder why your turn over is so high? Look no further than your nightmarish regional managers.
