    Pros

Great opportunities for growth and advancement and an opportunity to be on the cutting edge of health insurance.

    Cons

Very siloed work environments lead to tremendous variations in individual work experiences, failures to share vital information, and redundancy and duplication of effort.

    Advice to Management

Cross-pollination of ideas, practices, projects, and tools within various segments of the company would go a long way. Many of the most annoying issues from an employee perspective are the result of dozens if not hundreds of areas pursuing their own organic growth without being molded into a single comprehensive corporate-wide vision of progress.

    Pros

    Very flexible and respect associates

    Cons

People rely too heavily on conference calls - face-to-face meetings occasionally are good...helps make personal connections to co-workers

    Advice to Management

It's great the way you value associate input and act on it. It shows you're really listening.

    Pros

I work for a great director, and am challenged to think and be innovative at work. As an organization, I feel that there is a commitment to growing the business, and a desire to be better integrated integrated across the organization. We are moving slowly in that direction.

    Cons

A lot of our operational infrastructure and work processes on the commercial sales side are antiquated and disconnected. It can be operationally challenging for commercial accounts to do business with us. Brokers are required to have different work methodologies for small group and midmarket accounts. As technology as a whole races ahead with Web 2.0, the operational gap in sales becomes more and more obvious to brokers and customers.

We have so many products and options on the commercial side, making it difficult to sell.

    Advice to Management

Take a look from the outside in at what it's like for brokers to do business with Humana from an operational perspective. There's a lot of operational disconnects that are visible to the outside.

    Pros

Excellent growth potential for a leading & trusted business within the industry; the job market is slow, but Humana has been growing - great leadership!

    Cons

As with any business, associates and management seem to get caught up in the "daily grind" forgetting to provide value feedback in a more timely manner - whether it comes to just a thank you / pat on the back to everyone getting on the same page......timely communication between all is crucial.

    Advice to Management

Instill and encourage communication in all forms...even to the lowest level of associates.

    Pros

I worked for Humana Tricare division, who are a group of folks committed to serving the needs of our country's veterans and active duty service members. Special care was taken to ensure these military personnel recieved the benefits they so richly deserve. Senior leadership always takes the time to speak to you personally. My CEO made his own coffee, even though he had a line of secretaries to pass on his way to the break room. The corporate office is beautiful and sits right in downtown, which is a nice area to work. Camdaraderie among the Tricare division is something I really miss.

    Cons

Elimination of annual raises. Parking so far from the office! The two inch candy cane for a Christmas gift. Seriously?

    Advice to Management

Stop buying up the struggling companies and put some of those funds towards raises for your employees. You will continue to lose quality talent if you fail to recognize them monetarily.

    Cons

Need work in setting and communicating company standards
    No overtime compensation
Difficult to learn point of contacts in various departments
    Very departmentalized
Lots of red tape involved in getting purchase requests approved
