I have been working at Humber College full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

There are a lot of opportunities for working with great people, to learn from staff and faculty, and to take part in a wealth of professional development programs, courses, workshops...etc. Individually, the people that work at the college are great, dedicated to their jobs, the students and the community in general, not just at their main campus but at all their campus locations. the college has a lot of great strategies and real efforts in place to try and make a difference in the experience of their students and staff.

    Cons

Like any large institution, especially an educational one with thousands of employees, things take a long time to be resolved, there are always dozens of levels of delays and requirements that seems illogical at times. People can feel isolated if they are not supported by their supervisors or their teammates. Also, like any large workplace, there are bad seeds with too much power that make decisions because those decisions are of benefit to them and their immediate connections.

    Advice to Management

Don't forget the recommendations that came from the employee engagement survey: recognize people, publically and frequently, praise often, check in with people as people, not just units. When you say you're working towards transparency, mean it and show it. Earnest gratitude and acknowledgment at every level are essential.

I have been working at Humber College full-time

    Pros

The college is a very progressive environment that works hard to give students the best opportunities possible.

    Cons

Management lacks respect of the collective agreement and tries to push boundaries despite having the lowest pay of colleges in the province.

I worked at Humber College part-time

    Pros

Great out door environment, I learned a lot and my bosses were amazing.

    Cons

This is the biggest college in the province and it shows. They talk high and mighty "politically correct" nonsense while building and maintain a campus in Saudi Arabia.

    Advice to Management

    Don't be evil.
