I have been working at Hungama full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

When I joined in 2014, a college-like atmosphere existed. There was little or no work on many days. I did some projects for internal teams without my reporting manager supervising.

A nice perk is that Bollywood personalities often come visiting. I saw the lead actors of Rock On, Welcome to Karachi, Tum Bin 2, and many more movies. You can dance and click selfies with them. Sometimes Big Boss contestants, IPL cheer-leaders, also come visiting. However, don't expect topmost Bollywood personalities here !

From 2014 to mid-2015, work-life balance was good. The work was fine, and I got to learn a few technologies. My reporting manager, was very supportive.

The company is very active when it comes to "fun" activities, like celebrations on Diwali, Christmas and other festivals. Cricket matches are also held.

At least salaries are on time, and they have a portal to check your payslips and other details. Reimbursements etc. are done properly.

HR once call me to ask me my concerns etc. which was good. I thought this was done only at large MNC-type companies.

    Cons

The story abruptly changed in 2015-16, when a new CTO arrived, and the company got investments from some external investors. There were massive lay-offs, and the work became very hectic to affect work-life balance. This was a drastic U-turn from earlier.

Unlike the previous years, NO salary increments were given till the first week of Nov 2016, even though the employees had filled the forms way back in April. The HR had assured that the appraisal process shall be completed by October. In November it was done but, the hikes were beggarly. This was unprofessional, and left a bitter taste even as the work was increased manifold.

HR is lazy. I got my confirmation letter many months after the due date, and that too after a lot of following up. Its embarrassing to keep asking for something that's rightfully yours. I also got my joining date almost 2 months after appearing for the interview. Many other processes (like the appraisal mentioned above) are also slow.

    Advice to Management

Don't jump into the investor-driven bandwagon. I respect Hungama's original spirit of being an independent media house. I'm not saying that work must be lazily done, but if an external company controls you, then what are you about ?
