I worked at Hunt Construction Group full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Work on large High profile projects , travel, good pay ,

    Cons

No concept of work life balance , Need to consider project team, and not just project, The team will make it happen if treated properly. Place people in areas that reflect their strength. use strategic scheduling with respect to project team, very large project teams, should be Management 101.

    Advice to Management

Understand the strength of your team players and place accordingly. Give some thought to employee strategic scheduling ( life work balance) . Upper management needs to police itself ,and respond accordingly to problem situations and people . instead of looking other way

I have been working at Hunt Construction Group

    Pros

Hunt is a major industry player that gets their fair share of large and high profile projects.

    Cons

The Dallas office gives field employees minimal feedback and does not recognize hard work and talent. I also witnessed a serious lack of business ethics. Use of technology is 10 years behind similar sized competitors.

    Advice to Management

When your project engineer, asst. project engineer, and superintendent all quit in the middle of a project, there may be issues with the PM.

I have been working at Hunt Construction Group full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

High profile projects (becoming less), good people overall (beyond Sr. Management)

    Cons

Poor technology, bad business ethics, operates with a mom and pop shop mentality in a medium sized organization, expensive employee benefits, extremely below average 401k program

    Advice to Management

Sr Leadership has been given to individuals who operate with a "Frat boy mentality" who fight with each other and take no issue with stepping on others with their giant sized egos. These individuals care very little about their staff outside the operations unit.

    Pros

High profile projects Former glory on resume

    Cons

5 years behind other companies in the industry in adopting technology and training it's people in the effective use of it. Promotes and hires people on the merit of family members of long-term employees in the company, fires and lays off competent people in order to make way for family members. Does not value female engineers, or project managers and relegates them to positions of glorified secretaries. It's a... good old boys club, stuck in the 1950s, and getting further and further away from the reality of the industry and the work force attempting to enter it. Completely out of touch.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to all of your employees. Enter the 21st century. Establish proper HR procedures including performance reviews. Stop firing/laying off good people to give positions to family members of former employees.
