I worked at Huntington Ingalls Industries full-time

    Pros

great place to start a career. Pay is good and you get raises regularly. There are advancement oppertunities but that doesn’t come easy. Must be a hard worker. Training is pretty good.

    Cons

Parking is an absolute nightmare, if you want a decent parking spot be prepared to show up around 3am for your 7am shift. Conditions can be brutal especially in the heat. Management / upper management can be condradictory at times. For example your boss may tell you one thing and then his boss will tell you something completely different. Your experience at the shipyard can differ wildly depending on your boss.... Best thing to do is when you first start, talk to your mates and see how strict your foreman is. Some foreman will fire you just because they don’t like you, some are really good mentors and great people that want to see you succeed.

    Advice to Management

instead of always using negative reinforcement to increase productivity, try positive reinforcement. Make your employees feel appreciated and it will go a long way. People will want to be great at their jobs if you care about them and treat them right. Stop promoting these terrible people to management positions. There are too many foreman that find pleasure in firing people. They should be doing everything they... can to make great employees instead of firing them without giving anyone a chance.

I worked at Huntington Ingalls Industries full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Not many other than they are a large company with boat loads of money. Pun intended.

    Cons

Acquiring companies they have no business acquiring. They have no understanding of those customers or the employees that support them. For the most part their leadership is bloated and extremely incompetent.

    Advice to Management

Senior leadership should be at minimum receive leadership training and I mean real training not the internal kind. I would also consider cleaning house in many areas.
