    Pros

Solid training and company invests in their employees to learn and advance their skills. Family like atmosphere. Company also looks to invest in the local community. Employee benefits package was competitive. Company looks to promote from within. Ranked as one of the top 100 places to work in Southeast Michigan.

    Cons

regional bank so relocation options are limited. Student tuition reimbursement must be paid off if you leave the company. Current credit crisis and poor acquisition in 2007 led to lay offs and expense cuts.

    Advice to Management

Poor acquisition in 2007 led to many problems at bank.

    Pros

Huntington National bank gives you the training and the proper coaching to help you succeed in the workplace as well as professionally.

    Cons

Huntington National Bank doesn't clearly recognize the importance of sales expertise and will not be able to comply with opening more availability of sales positiions which they despereately need. The company will tell you that you will be able to advance within the company, and then will tell you that it will come eventually, I know of several people that have had the chance to advance however have been in the same position due to lack of training and management advancing the positions over. In the difficult economy we live in, Huntington will be able to withstand 2009 but will not be in a strong enough position for advancement anytime soon.

    Advice to Management

TO recognize the rewards of the sales positions for those that are doing better in comparison to other offices.

    Pros

Huntington has a great internal community and truly believes in promoting a healthy work/life balance. The benefits are terrific and the culture is very focused on customer service.

    Cons

Huntington doesn't seem to attract or retain top talent. The drain at top management limits the development and mentorship of middle-management, which limits personal development opportunities throughout the firm. This creates an insulated, risk-averse culture and also keeps salaries low.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to energize the firm around a common goal or Huntington will lose ground or even its independence in the rapidly consolidating banking market. Champions for that goal need to be found and unleashed to take risks and develop acolytes.

    Pros

Huntington has it benefits. Management does show interest in employees for family and well being. Decent salary base. Light on commision structure in retail banking.

    Cons

2 biggest con's to Huntington as far as retail goes. Base pay structure based on likability, not merit. Definatly low balls new hires. Also the assistance by management and HR for employee movement and advancement is little to none. They care, but don't really seem to know how to go about helping an employee advance their career.

    Advice to Management

If Huntington wants salespeople in the roles of bankers then payment needs to be there as well. A little more focus on employee retention would definatly go a long way in the direction that Huntington is trying to take.

    Pros

Places for advancements inside the branch

    Cons

Not a competitive pay rate. Did too much work for the little amount of rate I was paid.

    Advice to Management

Do not let merger bank managers run the office under Huntington rules because they still refer back to the old bank that merged with Huntington

I have been working at Huntington National Bank full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

If you are lucky enough to work for a supportive manager, you will succeed. Most people there are willing to help you learn and develop your skills, and they generally want you to do well.

    Cons

There are going to be people that will treat you poorly, and it will be apparent that they are unsuccessful at Huntington.

    Advice to Management

Upper management needs to hire fully qualified people to lead the company, instead of bringing on friends to fill key roles.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Huntington National Bank full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There are opportunities to expand your knowledge in order to explore your career possibilities, which I think makes this an great start for a career. There is plenty of vacation time, the benefits are fair, and there is some flexibility.

    Cons

There are opportunities to grow, but it is possible to get "stuck" in a position. Some of the rules are too rigid, unnecessary, and/or inconsistent or not transparent.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Huntington National Bank full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Generous paid time off right away (10 days upon being hired), friendly coworkers, professional atmosphere, opportunities to advance, everyone willing to help, community involvement, flexible schedule

    Cons

computer system somewhat outdated, scheduling not consistent with volume of customers, required to stand all day, somewhat unfair customer survey tabulation

    Advice to Management

Improve ESS so that it isn't constantly going down. Include Passport in training because then when ESS goes down (as it often does), new employees have something to use without feeling overwhelmed. Schedule more than 2 employees (tellers) on Saturday, when we tend to be busiest. Bring back chairs for tellers to sit in. The high rise chairs look no different to someone coming in the door than if a teller is standing, and halfway through the day you can be very tired and in pain from standing so long, which decreases productivity. Take "Good" ratings into account for the customer measurement scorecard, rather than only the "excellents". Make the scores weighted based on the responses, not an "all or nothing" based on if the rating was excellent or not.
