I have been working at Huntsman Cancer Institute full-time

    Pros

Good benefits; fun and friendly staff; nice facility; some opportunity for career advancement.

    Cons

    Salary; parking is complicated; management.

    Advice to Management

Need to be more involved with employees and follow through with their word/commitments. Get staff engaged in everything and seek input.

I have been working at Huntsman Cancer Institute full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Overall good place to work.

    Cons

Parking is horrible and you pay an unreasonable amount every paycheck to park. This fee also goes up every year.

I have been working at Huntsman Cancer Institute full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

This company has a very bright future and is a super company to work for. The co-workers are great and the working conditions are really good as well. I have enjoyed my time working here and would stay here until retirement if I could. The benefits are tremendous as well including retirement.

    Cons

The only con is sometimes you get called off if the census is low or if you are into overtime and they have enough staff to cover your shift. That is really the only drawback. Otherwise I can't mention any other cons with this hospital.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the great work.

I have been working at Huntsman Cancer Institute full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great learning experience. I was an experienced coordinator coming to Huntsman and I continue to learn something new almost every day. It is a very smooth operation and the patients I see always praise the hospital and staff for being so wonderful.

    Cons

At Huntsman you tend to work more than 40 hours a week due to being a salaried employee and Huntsman having very high expectations of their staff. You need to plan your week and find a way to balance your work and home life.

    Advice to Management

    None

    Pros

Collaborative, engaging environment that is quickly recruiting top caliber scientists from everywhere. The quality of life in Salt Lake City is excellent, particularly if you have a family or enjoy the outdoors. Good cafeteria too.

    Cons

The core facilities at Huntsman and the University of Utah are WIDELY variable in quality. As anywhere, some people are excellent, but in multiple different cores that I have had to interact with, rampant laziness and incompetence amongst directors and managers has made my research so so much more difficult than it needs to be.

I have been working at Huntsman Cancer Institute full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Beautiful building, good benefits, great people to work with and work for, quality healthcare, and Patient focused.

    Cons

Parking, location (up on the hill)

    Advice to Management

They are building a new parking structure but I would ad another one on top of that.

I worked at Huntsman Cancer Institute full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

You create software that directly contributes to helping people. The retirement plan is amazing. Co-workers are willing to help you out.

    Cons

My first week there I was warned to be present in my desk as much as possible otherwise the Director would think you weren't putting in your best. The groups that work underneath him constantly are working against the grain. Don't plan on getting much support. Also, as a software engineer you will wear all of the hats, customer service, software dev, product manager, etc. making it extremely difficult to make an impact. The current codebase is in terrible shape.

    Advice to Management

Your employees don't enjoy working under the current leadership
