I have been working at Huntsman Corp full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Gret work life balance. Great location and campus. Immediate management team shows excellent leadership, mentoring and integrity. Jon Huntsman (the founder) is a Christmatic leader and a dedicated philanthropist.

    Cons

Nepotism runs deep at this "public" traded company. Upper management is more concerned with stock price and paying dividends than developing new products and associates. Need to fully utilize their current assets (plants) before looking to acquire additional ones. The 5 divisions function in silo's and need to learn to work with internal synergies.

    Advice to Management

Choose qualified candidates for VP's and above. Not from their last names or religious affiliations.

I worked at Huntsman Corp full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good benefits, pay for some positions is low

    Cons

Hypocritical in following company core values, unprofessional behaviors, will do what is right for the environment and people as long as it doesn't cost any money.

    Advice to Management

Clean house of your poor division level managers and put new professional, ethical leaders in place.

I worked at Huntsman Corp for more than a year

    Pros

Has some good points but overall morale is low because nothing positive is happening. Share price has fallen more than their peers due mostly to a bad situation with pigments.

    Cons

Top level management seems to be focused on how to solve problems in their TiO2 businesses. The rest of the company is doing fine but not moving forwards.

    Advice to Management

Spin off the TiO2 business at any cost and get the other divisions back on track asap. Invest more in developing new technology.

    Pros

Stable work environment. Great benefits. The best location - The woodlands. Perfect if you are 50+ and need a place to work till you retire

    Cons

Limited mobility. Family run business with a lot of family members all over the organization. Poor pay scales well below Houston market.

    Advice to Management

Wake up if you want to grow the organization. Your best talent just went to work for the competetion

I worked at Huntsman Corp full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good people in the ranks doing the actual day-to-day work. Great environment outside of the IT department. Very reasonable benefits. Great work location if you live on north side of town.

    Cons

The most senior IT leadership is inexperienced and untrusting of all but select few insiders, who non-surprisingly, also primarily seem to consist of people with limited experience -- particularly IT experience outside of Huntsman. Business not engaged with IT, and as a result, leadership problems are not transparent outside of IT. Cost metrics are all that matter -- no concern about customer satisfaction, quality..., or performance. There is a clear environment of intimidation, particularly toward those who question the status quo -- even if they are trying to bring about improvement. Order of the day -- keep your head low, don't question leadership, collect your paycheck, and survive another day without being belittled. Be a yes man, and compliment leadership regularly for their genius..and you'll survive fine. Make a recommendation on how to mature or improve IT performance, and you'll be brow beat to the door very soon.

    Advice to Management

Being a leader is about hiring talented people, always improving, taking advice from others, giving credit to others, enabling your team, and inspiring others through your vision, commitment, having humility, and integrity. Today, you (and you know who 'you' are) operate exactly opposite of this...and that is a problem.

I have been working at Huntsman Corp

    Pros

Huntsman is an exciting environment becase things are often changing through divestment, acquisition, etc. It's also an international environment with opportunity to work with people all over the world, particularly Europe, England, China, Singapore, Australia, etc. Many of the products Huntsman makes are market leaders, and the company is in some good business sectors with impressive growth rates. Huntsman has... taken tough decisions in the past about its future, and the Huntsman family seems genuinely committed to doing the best thing for the busienss, the shareholders, and yes maybe even for the employees. Huntsman is a large comopany which in theory offers opportunity to move between departments.

    Cons

In some of the functions there is little or no communication from C-level and director level to managers about strategy, plans, etc. This becomes particularly apparent at times of stress, e.g. resource cutbacks, when it becomes difficult to know exactly where to focus efforts in order to get the best outcome. Promotions often given based on personal relationship rather than best person for job and career... opportunities are not well advertized internally. In some functions there is a high reliance on external consultancy, which is perceived by employees to be expensive and not at all value adding. Some businesses are run in a very command-and-control style, with little involvement of staff in decision making.
