I have been working at Hupy and Abraham, S.C. (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I feel like I can talk with my direct boss freely about my opinions regarding my work and the company. I know that I am valued and receive individual feedback on a regular basis. People in other departments are great – there’s a very diverse and interesting group that works here.

There are paid volunteer opportunities and periodic employee socials – that breaks up the work week nicely. Free parking downtown, good benefits. The work is challenging but rewarding. Upper management seems to gives back to the community a lot, which some places don't do -- so that's a cool thing to see.

    Cons

Sometimes there is unpredictability with new tasks. It can feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day to get everything done, which can cause some stress. Because of that, it can get a bit hectic – but it’s manageable.

    Advice to Management

Discover who each employee is again. Especially those employees that have been here for a while. Maintain the spark. Create more opportunities for interdepartmental interaction, especially for those "outside" the typical case flow.

I worked at Hupy and Abraham, S.C. full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The pay is decent but the way management treats you doesn't make it worth it.

    Cons

Management is terrible. Never in the office and passes his files over to you because he/she are to "busy". Management dating a partner of the firm so that management thinks she has all the power. They're the #1 injury law firm because they send you a couple emails a day telling you to vote.

Then they wonder why their turnover rate is so high.

    Advice to Management

Get managers who actually know what they're doing and know how to treat their employees.

I have been working at Hupy and Abraham, S.C. full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I'm not quite sure if there are any Pros of working at this firm. While they encourage their employees to vote them the "best" in every media poll out there (using completely unfair and dishonest tactics such as repeatedly asking their employees, and their friends and family to vote from every e mail address multiple times) the fact is that the public image is a complete fallacy - donating money to certain causes and winning local media polls does NOT make one the BEST. Rewarding your employees, fair salaries, not having to work in fear under the thumb of a boss that screams at the smell of popcorn among many other things, might help improve the atmosphere. MIGHT.

    Cons

Where do I begin? A complete lack of communication between departments, incredibly impulsive and ineffective management decisions from the partners, incompetent human resources, constant firings contemporaneous with not only allowing, but rewarding laziness because of who you are or who you know, and being told that NO one's job is safe, no matter how loyal you are, along with the threat of consequences for speaking your mind, are all just a few of the obstacles one must battle, usually on a daily basis to simply keep your job.

    Advice to Management

REWARD LOYALTY. REWARD EXCELLENCE. BE CONSISTENT IN YOUR PRACTICES.

  6. "Decent pay, little room for advancement w/o your J.D., must be willing to put p with a lot from management."

    Pros

Competitive pay and great benefits. You are given a lot of autonomy to complete your work.

    Cons

Limited room for advancement without going to law school, constant firings, high stress, very repetitive work.

    Advice to Management

Work on company identity and treat employees with more respect.

I have been working at Hupy and Abraham, S.C. full-time

    Pros

This is such a great place to work. I'm amazed by all of the "extra perks" that are given to employees - lunches, "jeans days," drawings for sports, arts and social event tickets, planned monthly social celebrations and more. In addition, I find it really rare to work for owners - whose names are on the door- that are present, down to earth - and take the time to speak to you and get to know you personally.

    Cons

This is a very high volume, reputable law firm. Don't work here unless you are willing to work really hard and step up your game. You're working with the best.

    Advice to Management

Continue to give employees the freedom to share their thoughts and opinions. Growth happens with independence.

I have been working at Hupy and Abraham, S.C. full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Lots of freedom to get your work done your way if you prove you can handle it.

    Cons

Shouldn't think of it as a con but you'll have to work hard.

    Advice to Management

Maintain an open dialogue with employees at all levels.

I worked at Hupy and Abraham, S.C. full-time

    Pros

Legal assistants, investigators, paralegals, and associate attorneys in local offices are generally good people. Firm does throw a nice Christmas party at home office.

    Cons

Lots of workplace drama. Upper management loses temper easily. Management applies a one-size-fits-all approach for all remote offices. Management seems more interested in turning cases over quickly than in providing quality legal representation for injured plaintiffs. Compensation is generally below market.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees. Don't assume that what works in Wisconsin will also work in Illinois and Iowa. Don't micromanage. Set clear expectations. Control your temper.

    Pros

    Cons

A decent starter job, but not a place to make a life-long commitment unless you are an attorney or paralegal.

    Pros

Great bennefits and good pay for the legal industry.

    Cons

Beware of company political infighting. Depending non the office, infighting can be problematic.

    Advice to Management

Value those employees who work hard for you and promote from within.
