    Pros

vibrant culture, proven methodology, great approach to healthcare and company confidence in driving change for clients

    Cons

variability in workflow intensity, significant politics involved in company culture (who knows who), ambiguous success as a firm, has been known to alter numbers for company benefit

    Advice to Management

reevaluate Huron methodology to ensure that it drives change for clients rather than just providing them with more busy work and reporting tools

I worked at Huron Consulting Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Great people who are driven, smart, and collaborative
    - Travel bonus each quarter if you travel 25+ days
    - Good healthcare plan + 401K
    - Flexible work at home Fridays

    Cons

    - After the first year with the company work/life balance becomes nonexistent. Projects do not have well defined scopes which causes the management team to over promise. Project teams end up struggling to fulfill those promises and stretching themselves thin.
    - Three layoffs in a single year: Instead of calling out issues with underperformance by the sales team, solution leadership dismissed the subject to calm the employees and failed to answer key questions
    - Politics: Getting staffed is about who you know and while it's great to be on the "beach" for a while, without a project you can end up on a RIF

    Advice to Management

    - While layoffs might be necessary to keep the company afloat, leadership should focus on ensuring their sales team is performing and getting contracts signed
    - Set clear project scopes and don't over promise to the client, because when your project team can't deliver future sales will suffer

"Good Employees but Questionable Vision and Management"

I worked at Huron Consulting Group full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Huron offers good benefits, nice facilities (for those of us not working from client locations) and a great group of co-workers. While pay was never top of the market, it was reasonably competitive and efforts were made to ensure at least some bonuses were paid even when business units missed targets.

    Cons

I was part of a business unit sold to a small start-up type company for a bargain-basement price at the beginning of 2016. While some efforts were made to smooth the transition, involuntarily going from a large company to a small one was not without its problems. Management's reasoning for selling off the unit quickly and cheaply was never clear. Communication among different business units was consistently poor. Employee trust has been eroded by layoffs and the sale of business units. After asking (and demanding) that employees put forward 110% day in and day out, it's hard to see friends and co-workers tossed aside for short-term investor satisfaction.

    Advice to Management

Current management seems capable of peacetime management but Huron needs to be on wartime footing. Leadership doesn't seem to possess the vision, internal buy-in or structure necessary to successfully lead even its reduced lines of business. Closing off or selling lines of business that were not effectively integrated into a cohesive whole squandered the value of those areas. Each group was continually hampered because there was not an environment of cross-collaboration and innovation. The current focus seems to rely too heavily on consulting at the expense of the service delivery, technological innovation and internal development necessary to make Huron's offerings unique.

    Cons

Remote work. Lack of connectivity with leadership. Lack of communication, follow-through with internal corporate resources.

    Advice to Management

    Communication is critical.

    Pros

Was great as Stockamp and for a few years after. Fun People and full timers were treated with respect

    Cons

Processes and Architecture got over engineered. People got promoted a lot with nowhere to go
but extra baggage at the top.

    Advice to Management

Start all over again. Don't over engineer but also don't lag behind in technology.

I have been working at Huron Consulting Group full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Aggregated reputation of acquired companies. Not sure that there is a true "Huron" reputation. Wide range of solutions to what ails healthcare.

    Cons

Very loose management structure. Not a high degree of listening. Not sure of the competency of most corporate office individuals.

    Advice to Management

Walk the walk...seems like lots talk about change, but not much actual doing.

    Pros

Potential for relatively quick advancement. Mostly people in their twenties who are sociable and intelligent. Experiences differ significantly between which practice or group you are placed in.

    Cons

Long hours; unclear project objectives. Yearly promotion frequency for some groups (other firms have mid-year promotions)

    Advice to Management

Stop telling recruits that they will get much of a say in what type of projects they'll be put on. With a few exceptions, people are placed based on the particular needs of the practice and the individual's knowledge.

I have been working at Huron Consulting Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible PTO policy - take what you need.
Benefits - $750 gift card benefit every quarter for every 25 nights spent out of town.
    Year end Bonuses
    Rarely work Fridays

    Cons

Every project I've been on we have had to travel to the client site every week. There have been weeks where I have done absolutely nothing except sit there and eat up hotel/travel/etc. expenses. The travel is horrible and there are plenty of weeks where I could have accomplished more working remotely.

Also my Associate is a major con. He thinks hes an MD.

    Advice to Management

Allow your employees to work remotely more. I have been here for a year and am already starting to apply elsewhere.
