    Pros

nice staff, good compensation, recruits from schools in the midwest

    Cons

expanding too quick, too many remote workers, behind the curve technologically, the work stops being mentally challenging after a while, VERY midwest

I worked at Huron Consulting Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people at Huron truly live the company values, which include Integrity, Pursuit of Excellence, and Collaboration. They are some of the most down-to-earth people and are extremely bright consultants. The people are what make the travel worth it.

    Cons

Huron's largest sector is its healthcare division, which is a slow-moving industry. The company is still learning to be innovative and fast-paced in the industry, making sales difficult at this time.

    Advice to Management

As Huron grows, it becomes more difficult for people lower on the hierarchy to contribute to the company at large. It would be beneficial if the company could provide all levels of consultants with the opportunity to engage with the ongoings at the management level.

I worked at Huron Consulting Group full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Worked with great people, had a great work-life balance, and learned a ton! Have a great opportunity to work closely with Senior Leadership, and be involved with Sales & thought leadership even at a young age. Management does respect opinions of junior staff, and the social environment is great.

    Cons

Management gets cliquey when it comes to staffing, and did not actively support broad growth through exposure to diverse projects. If you want to become a subject matter expert, however, there is an upward trajectory.

    Advice to Management

Take a longer-term view of junior staff development. Listen to their feedback and try to diversify their staffing

    Pros

People, people, people - very fun and motivated group of people
Benefits - Very flexible PTO & terrific benefits package

    Cons

The travel can sometimes be a lot (2 hour flights accompanied with 2 hour drives) but it does come with the (consulting) territory)

    Pros

    - work with very smart, young people
    - lots of meaningful responsibility early in career
    - financial benefits of constant travel

    Cons

    - Long project life cycles mean you will have very good or very bad experiences
    - Some inexperienced management

    Advice to Management

Focus on management and development skills for those in supervisory roles

I worked at Huron Consulting Group full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Varied project types; liked people I worked with in my division

    Cons

Company was transferring work from nurses to non-nurses and presenting them as clinical people by default. Analysts and Associates doing new work were very young and had no idea what the dynamics were of a situation they were assessing. Lower level employees set standards for employees at higher levels to control behavior.

    Advice to Management

Understand all job roles; very sexist and condesending - stop promising client savings that are impossible to achieve

I have been working at Huron Consulting Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - The PEOPLE! I've never had a project team I didn't love (after 4 projects) and
    - Development opportunities - if you're looking to own a high-level client relationship, supervise others internally, lead a project work plan, etc. this place will give you the chance, and quickly. I've learned SO much and am able to apply these skills anywhere (even in my personal life)
    - Flexibility - if you request PTO in advance and it's not putting project timelines at risk, you can take it and be sure that no one will be calling you or expecting email response. We greatly value work life balance (as much as a consulting firm can) so though we may plug a lot of hours, your PTO is sacred. We are also looking to allow more work at home time and usually you can sort this out with project leadership depending on the situation.
    - Benefits are great (health insurance, 401k, wellness)

    Cons

    - Very, very limited say in where you are staffed. This can be nice since staffing is out of your control so you aren't the sole owner of getting yourself onto a project, however, the downside of that is you could be staffed anywhere even if it is misaligned with the preferences you've expressed to leadership
    - Strict development tracks for the most part--there's a very standard pyramid structure that may not always play to folk's strengths while also granting upward mobility - but this seems to be changing and our various practices are shifting to be less silo'd

    Advice to Management

Do not lose sight of your people. The recent layoffs, the random staffing assignments (which sort of feel like an effort to prevent folks from being laid off rather than staffing to their preferences and strengths), and the sometimes strict travel policies--all of this has created some negative vibes over the last year and I think we are losing some of our best people because of it.

    Pros

Lots of growth opportunities and decent work life for consultant life. Good first career company.

    Cons

Company is not sure on what direction it is heading in and is causing sales issues due to that. Compensation is average for consultants. Not sure on long term employment.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to the employees and market changes.
