I have been working at Huron Consulting Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible PTO policy - take what you need.
Benefits - $750 gift card benefit every quarter for every 25 nights spent out of town.
    Year end Bonuses
    Rarely work Fridays

    Cons

Every project I've been on we have had to travel to the client site every week. There have been weeks where I have done absolutely nothing except sit there and eat up hotel/travel/etc. expenses. The travel is horrible and there are plenty of weeks where I could have accomplished more working remotely.

Also my Associate is a major con. He thinks hes an MD.

    Advice to Management

Allow your employees to work remotely more. I have been here for a year and am already starting to apply elsewhere.

    Pros

Great company, benefits and comp. can't complain about working for the company in that regard. It's a good place for transition or to work from home.

    Cons

They aren't creating a strategy to survive. The BI business can't spell Analytics let alone develop or deliver it. Division has lasted through a few acquisitions and key clients, but otherwise the leadership is totally lost.

    Advice to Management

Start acting like you care and take your people seriously. The coaching model isn't effective. Be aware that your best people leave first and the rest follow quickly.

    Pros

Working at Huron is great because I'm part of an organization that provides and supports technologies to clients to decrease cost and increase productivity.

    Cons

One con for working at Huron is that the growth is limited.

I have been working at Huron Consulting Group full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Firm does stress their core values. Compensation is to market. Clients you are working for do need your help. Some people you work with are smart and care. Usually work on only 1-2 projects at a time.

    Cons

Travel is always present like any consulting firm. Some good talent has since left the organization. Seems like Huron did not invest in more strategic / IT areas of healthcare consulting just mainly focused on performance improvement.

    Advice to Management

Strive to stay market relevant via acquisitions vs. home grown solutions that will take too long...

    Cons

    Pros

Most of the people at the company are truly awesome and there is a sincere focus on delivering results for the client. There's unlimited PTO which is a bonus!

    Cons

Huron is having some growing pains - they are not yet established enough to be selective with their clients and as a public company face the pressure from investors for sustained growth each year which has led to less than ideal projects. Specifically in the healthcare practice, the projects have become increasingly difficult with horrible travel (3+ hours from the nearest airport), tighter deadlines, and much larger scope while team sizes have remained the same leading to much more work with the same if not fewer resources. They seem to be abiding by the reverse of the consulting cardinal rule - they (meaning leadership and sales) "over-promise and under-deliver."

    Advice to Management

Be selective with clients and project scopes to ensure success for both Huron employees and clients.

    Pros

Great compensation and benefits for employees

    Cons

Consulting methodology is vertical versus horizontal

    Advice to Management

Change how bonuses are allocated. Solutions work in silos and limit opportunities for greater benefits.

I worked at Huron Consulting Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Benefits are good (401k match is excellent), work-life balance is decent and managers have an open door policy.

    Cons

work hours can be extreme for field personnel; travel is nearly 100% of the time. The clients are very demanding and consultants are always dealing with dissatisfied clients.

    Advice to Management

The management team needs to follow the value statements as well as create software solutions that clients will find easy to use without frustration.
