I have been working at Hutchison Whampoa

    Pros

Good place to learn about the great variety of industries in which the group operates. Rewards loyalty of employees. Good year-end bonus (20%+).

    Cons

No empowerment to middle management and employees. Lack of strategy. Cost is given priority over acquiring talented individuals. No emphasis on continous improvement. Too conservative.

    Advice to Management

Top management should delegate more the stategic decisions to lower levels and promote creativity and quality. Management should stop recruiting cheaper less-competent employees and instead attract the most talented individuals who can add value to the organisation and help enhance its competitive advantage.

I have been working at Hutchison Whampoa

    Pros

Great culture and work environment. Small agile company with a real challenger mentality, totally customer focused and all efforts are driven by what is felt will make the customer happy. Senior management are very accessible and are genuinely interested in staff satisfaction and operate according to the same standards they ask of their staff.

    Cons

Being a smaller operator competing against some very big fish in a very competitive market means that the focus can sometimes be a bit too tactical – looking for quick wins with less resources and focus aimed at strategic endeavours.

    Advice to Management

New challenges will mean even more focus on quick wins and short term objectives but it is important to make sure that the company stands for something other than good deals.
