    I worked at Hy-Vee part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Pay Rate is very nice, and job duties are not hard at all. They will train you and ensure that you're in good standing with your skill.

    Cons

Sometimes will be short staffed, and you must be completely fast paced. If you do not complete what needs done when they want it, they will let you know and stay on you until you get to where they want.

I have been working at Hy-Vee part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Hy-Vee is a company that will not only work for their customers, but their employees. They have a nice flexible schedule, great management, and the co-workers usually are nice to work with. They also treat their customers well with customer service. I wouldn't shop or work at any other grocery store.

    Cons

The only downfall is the meat department. They have some fish that just reeks (which usually isn't even fish that stinks, but maybe mold..), and its awful to go back there.

    Advice to Management

My only advice is to fix the ventilation over the meat department. It would not only get rid of smell, but have nice, clean air so it won't contaminate meat.

I have been working at Hy-Vee part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good starting pay, easy to get hours, work isn't too bad. All in all it's a good job for someone if you're just taking a break year for college or something like that because of the decent starting pay for someone with 0 experience.

    Cons

Upper management although some are nice seem very out of touch. Constantly have people calling in sick/leaving early/or just not showing up yet they still don't get fired. Also went from starting out and being hired at part-time/3 nights a week 8 hour shifts to now working 5 nights a week 8 hour shift without getting any status change (still "part time") or add in benefits.

    Advice to Management

Although some seem to genuinely care about the customer experience there seems to be a lack of care or just plain ignorance to what is truly happening with the staff. Try to get more involved with the staff other than only getting involved when a problem arises.

I worked at Hy-Vee (More than 3 years)

    Pros

fexible work hours very friendly coworkers and staff easy to get on the job training and lots of good deals

    Cons

there is always a huge turnover in the staff and it very hard to get rid of people you could kill someone and not get fired

    Advice to Management

hire better people not just all young people in high school and get rid of all the dead weight it brings people down

    Pros

    Stock large variety of foods
    Good exercise
Simple and easy - clock in, stock food, clock out, eat, sleep, repeat
Requires little communication beyond following basic directions
    Enjoyable team environment
Good first job, especially for high school athletes - one 8 hour shift is like a long distance walk with a lot of lifting

    Cons

Work is extremely repetitive and can be physically and mentally tiring
Night shift may take getting used to and may make spending time with family or friends who work during the day difficult

    Advice to Management

    Never give up

    Pros

The night stock manager is great. She was always willing to work with me the best she could to help me have a life outside of my job with hours.

    Cons

It would be nice if cashiers could be allowed water at cash registers.

    Advice to Management

    I worked at Hy-Vee part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Some of my coworkers were great
It was a job that paid money
Got to work as a team and solo

    Cons

Management (other than my manager) treated us like pariahs
Difficult to attain full-time status(and therefore low pay and no benefits)

    Advice to Management

Respect the people who make your store what it is, and offer more full-time positions.
