I have been working at Hyatt full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, low turnover, promotions from within, fair wages, international transfer opportunities. Complimentary meals, free/discounted hotel stays. Bonus structure, stock options.

    Cons

Salaried employees expected to work long hours. Hotels are open 24/7, so holidays, nights, weekends, etc. all part of the territory.

    Advice to Management

Notice talent in younger, eager, ambitious associates. Publicly identify the requirements and needs for them to get into the CMT program.

    I worked at Hyatt full-time

    Pros

Corporate Hyatt owned hotels are a wonderful environment to work in. The company takes pride in making sure the employees at every level know their number one responsibility is hospitality and what that means. If you are looking for a career in the hotel industry I highly recommend working for a corporate owned or managed Hyatt, Hyatt Place or Hyatt House.

    Cons

Many of their properties have been sold to smaller investment groups over the last five years. These smaller companies are not always on board with doing things the way Hyatt does. Some are much more concerned about their bottom dollar. This is not true for all - but some of them. So research any Hyatt you consider working for to make sure the owner(s) are a company you would want to work for.

    Advice to Management

If you are franchise, especially one that owns more than one brand, try to remember that the Hyatt hotel you purchased has an identity and that it's important to maintain that. The guest has no idea who ABC Investments is and regard the stay as a HYATT stay. As I have worked for both the corporate owned hotels and the franchise hotels, I was disappointed by more than one small ownership group at their lack of investment in maintaining the Hyatt culture.

I worked at Hyatt (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There are a lot of good people that work for Hyatt, and it is a company that you can work for many years.
Their benefits are strong if you have a family.
If you want a change of location, they are able to offer positions all over the globe. This is dependent on being able to interview successfully for those positions, as well as time with company and availability.
The employee culture is strong. They can become like a second family, and I can personally say that I still keep in contact with a good number, even after being out since 2012.
401k percentage matching is good, if you intend to stay on for many years.

    Cons

Benefits are used to offset mediocre pay, and if you don't have needs that capitalize on those benefits, then most likely they are just useless fluff.
If you just want a job this may not be the best environment, as to thrive you need to be able to work with front and back of the house personnel for at least a couple of years to get the real feel for your property.
Rotational management can really be a killer, since the higher they go, the more Hyatt wants to shift them to new locations. This mean, as in my case, you can be thriving with professional accolades for years, then fail to adapt to new management coming in and end up in the cross-hairs.

    Advice to Management

For middle management, do your best to fight for your subordinates against new management that is apoplectic; that is to say making problems where none existed before.
For upper management, and I know it is wrong to be categorical here, but don't be two-faced. Get into the trenches to reach across the salary line. You will see the value and energy of your employees, at all levels, grow significantly.

I have been working at Hyatt as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

-Loved the employees I worked with
-Some of the managers were great people who really cared a lot about their subordinates

    Cons

-Jobs given to me were very minimal in skill set, I probably would have made more money just working as a waiter at a restaurant while gaining the same amount of experience
-Some managers were very rude and none of the employees liked them
    -Tips were not very fair

    Advice to Management

-Build a better intern program where students can gain more exposure to management level opportunities, we don't intern to be servers or bartenders - that can be done as a part time job
