I worked at Hyatt full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I was given the opportunity to work at an Andaz brand here in New York. I worked with some great people who were genuine and down-to-earth, and a number of them had interesting backgrounds and passions which they pursued outside of work. The union benefits were also a plus, as were certain other perks, and the hotel itself was aesthetically pleasing.

    Cons

Lots of politics and people in management were quick to railroad anyone by whom they felt threatened or posed any risk to "hurting the brand" in any manner. Additionally, there was a sense of social class hierarchy and favoritism was rampant amongst certain groups of people. Within those groups people could do whatever they wanted and not be held accountable, while others were punished for guest interactions that were not up to standard (the guests themselves were often quite difficult and unreasonable).

    Advice to Management

Don't take yourselves so seriously. You're working in hospitality, not medicine.

I have been working at Hyatt full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Insurance, 401 K, Vacation all very good. However, keep up with your hours or you will loose your insurance without notice.

    Cons

There is nepotism and management lack skills to effectively manage the food and beverage department.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate those who actually care about the restaurant, not just a paycheck. Try and implement some of the ideas that employees share, knowing that they are sharing these ideas because they have experience and they care. Concentrate on running and efficient and effective environment, not just get the food on the table.

    Pros

Great benefits, opportunity to quickly grow your career, lots of learning opportunities.

    Cons

Invest more time in training new managers and staff. High turnovers make the work environment a little stressful. In my experience, a better job can be done to respect work/life balance

    Advice to Management

Take care of your employees and they will provide top-notch service to your guests!

I worked at Hyatt (Less than a year)

    Pros

The people in the company seemed very happy and helpful while I was working in the company.

    Cons

Not many benefits and the companies culture is not very strong. You can say your just another employee if they need you they will use you and the moment they don't need you then they will get rid of you.

    Advice to Management

I would advise managers to become more involved with their employee and strive to create a company culture and employee appreciation.

    Pros

Able to trade shifts and make up days theough trade.

    Cons

No overtime which means not enough pay.

    Advice to Management

Stop hiring and invest in the agents you have. That way they can maintain a living seeing as how we make the company alot of money and are not rewarded.
